I noticed this new red flashing ad with the text: "Mature content. Do not click on this banner". Seems a little too legit. So I was wondering if the ads here are autogenerated spam ads, or safe ones manually added?

The 'Do not click this ad' is a legitimate ad which has passed our usual fraud and shady-stuff checks. It may be misleading, but it's legit.

At this point I wouldn't mind paying a little bit for e621. Not much, but more than you could ever get out of me even if I wouldn't block the ads. How about a permanent paypal donation button? I'd be totally fine with donating something from time to time.

It's surprisingly easy to obey the "Do not click this banner." ad.

Generally speaking, I don't click on Banners anyway. You wouldn't like them when they get mad.

Why would you even turn off ads in a place like this...?

The ads are ensured to be safe and often relevant to your interests. Some ads that have been shown have caused me to voluntarily spend money on their sites, which in itself is amazing, keeping in mind that this is the internet where ads in general are out to skin you to the bone.

I may have misinterpreted your post. I think ads not showing up is an issue lots of users face, including myself. We still ask that users add it to their exceptions, but of course there's no way for us to enforce this.
