Topic: What makes you contribute to e621?

This is a question I've been wanting to ask to the users and moderators who contribute to e621 for a while. It's a question with an open answer and without any implications; I'm asking this purely out of curiosity.

Like, what makes you:

  • spend hours on tagging and posting?
  • take part in productive debates on the forums?
  • construct and alter Wiki pages?
  • translate texts in posts/comics?
  • suggest and judge aliases and implications?

What makes you do all those things? Is it because:

  • you receive appreciation from others?
  • doing e621 a favor because the site does a favor in return?
  • it fills up some time in your daily life?
  • it make you feel useful or productive?
  • it is fun to do?
  • you like being busy with something?
  • it enhances your skills (e.g. communication, teamwork, English)?
  • something else?
As for me

I've been browsing this site for quite a while before joining, and wasn't really interested in contributing to it yet. That was until I created my account last year. I pretty much instantly wanted to help out because it felt satisfying and productive to do.
Now half a year later when I became part of e621's moderation team, I still have the will of being productive, but also like to see improvements happen (I'm often bursting with ideas for better or for worse). I sometimes also receive a friendly word from a fellow user, which is always a good motivation for me.

So, for what reason do you help out on e621?

Updated by CamKitty

Right now, my primary goal is to make sure that the site doesn't get overrun by the opinion that e621 is 100% 'furry stuff'

'Furry' here meaning anthro only

Updated by anonymous

Well, I look forward to helping the site grow to your #1 furry art site, some say it's quite improbable but seeing it being nominated in the Ursa Major Awards back in March gives me hope. And also since it's one of my most visited sites(No, I don't come here solely for that! >:C).

Now I just help by posting artwork from the many artists I follow, with hopes that one day I would post my own.

I like classifying things. Its cathartic. This gives me an eternal library to work with.

Combination of being productive, challenging myself, and doing my share for the humanity. ...yes, by contributing to a porn site.

It's not something that I can easily put into words.

Maybe it's like this.

Anger :3

I despide sites that have stuff, then they are cropped and compressed, signatures removed, no sources, no ways to search for them, etc. then have tons of watermarks and ads everywhere.
Having site that has everything high quality, properly tagged, credited and sourced, no intrusive advertisement, respects artists, etc. is really nice to have. Simple karma rules apply I guess.

So if I see something is wrong, it takes me like couple seconds or minutes to fix it, why wouldn't I? Especially if I see someone uploading gif made with screencap tool which has watermarks and program windows showing for one frame, has wrong timings, not optimized, incorrectly looped and bloated to size that no other site would accept it and uploader thinks it's OK because "it works, that's what matters" I see so much red and my instincts take over.

I love the interactions with other users and to make this site one of the best places for art of this genre. I'm also a numbers and statistics person, and this website has plenty of those.

Some men just want to watch the world fap. So sharing OMG hawt and/or cool pictures is a fun and satisfying activity (sometimes distraction) in and of itself, as is giving the people who make them a bit more limelight in case they're barely getting any.
When it comes to furry-focused image boards, E6 is simply the most suited for that, it's got a very sound infrastructure, with a large active userbase that's always at work to make it as consistent and user-friendly as can be.

Also, there's a more than decently-sized bunch of good people here, so interaction's definitely part of the reason too. And there is something oddly addictive about seeing your own stats go up, a bit Cookie Clicker-esque except you actually have to do stuff for it (preferably in a neat and tidy way, that's like a ground rule I set for myself), so in the end it makes you feel more accomplished.

I deal with asshole users because it's something to do. I don't really enjoy it, but it's a way to waste time.

I've got like 8 pages of Report tickets.
I dunno, that's about it.

That's definitely part of my reasons to help e621 out. And yeah, seeing your stats go up feels like a businessman looking at the season's revenue :p

"it make you feel useful or productive?"

"it is fun to do?"

eh, a little of each, i guess. though i've been FAR less active in tagging and submitting stuff for a good while now.

reddit and youtube...kinda hard to avoid getting tangled up in the mess known as politics these days even if your interaction largely amounts to merely commenting on and sharing info about..."hot" topics. :/ but i have to admit, that's not as boring as one might think. annoying and infuriating, yes, but not boring.

oh and video games and anime too of course.

hmmm... huh, has it really been 4 months already since i was hanging around post #78330 and throwing huge mountains of copyright tags at parasprite to help sort through? lol i think we were going through at least 4-500+ copyright tags on that one post alone at that time. never did...or can finish it though. since every time something gets added/removed from the playlist the tags will also need updating and that's a HUGE amount of titles to keep track of.

that and uploading M. Sherman's (theres still probably enough stuff in that zip file to flood the front and next 5 or so pages lol) stuff were probably the 2 hardest projects i ever tried here.

fun times, those. lol i'd try my hand at wrestling with the tag index here but for each page of that i try to clean, another 5-100 MORE pages might get spawned in a days time so, while fun, that is an exercise in futility.

As with what Ratte said, I do most of the contributes because I got nothing better to do, and it makes me feel slightly important (hey, this is an image I tagged, and someone commented on it!).

However, the reason why I stay and bother to do this is because this site is a great way to kill time. Look at images, be somewhat social, I'm contemplating beginning to upload again because of Pokemon Uranium (the fanart I've seen isn't bad). I still do spot-tagging on whim, despite me being able to play new content or new games.

Updated by anonymous

I like this place, and I want it to like me. So I do what I can to make it better. Plus when people tag nude images with both bottomless and topless, it fills me with boiling rage.

Updated by anonymous

Hot pr0n. A good tagging system helps which in turn makes you contribute to it.

Updated by anonymous

I signed up to this site because I loved the tagging system. For me this site has by far the most efficient way of finding exactly what you're looking for quickly.

Not being a member of any other furry sites pretty much means I never really find anything to upload so I decided to help out by doing what made me join the site in the first place: Tags! :)

I mainly do it as a way of both giving something back to the site, and helping other users find what they're looking for too.

It's really irritating that I don't have as much time to do this now as I used to, I had some pretty good momentum going there for a while, but unfortunately bills don't pay themselves. >.<

Saw stuff that need fixin', I fix it, I became addicted to fix

I was really depressed at the time and this was my escape from the reality of life.

I was really impressed with the tag system and I felt that contributing to it was worth the effort.

Low hanging fruit is tasty.

originally thought as just a depository for commissioned art when i initially made this account almost half a year ago. I found e621 to in general be a real good easy to find archive for references or examples if you just cant get any farther with text or redline in getting your point across to the artist and so ive become active in the past month with tagging here and there and trying to make some wikis better by cleaning them up, making them informative and making connections to related subject line as well as posting the art of certain artists who allow their art to go public but dont or only rarely post it themselves easyer accessible to everyone like thats of theowlette. i do think the wiki is one of the best things e621 has going for it. I dont know my place here yet but will find it one of these days.

PS; i do like that looking for a particular size of something is relatively accurate here with the existing tags and it only makes sense for me to do a couple things to make that even better, FA is kinda pointless in that regard>>

Feels good to contribute suggestions and progress to the furry booru. This site is a shining example of what all boorus should be in terms of tagging/sourcing/takedowns. Site administration is transparent and streamlined. Fixes are pushed quickly, issues are resolved impartially. Normal users have the opportunity to take part in discussions that shape how the site is run.

I'd say it has helped my conflict resolution IRL, especially when it comes to pushing for something I want done.

I just post Undertale art I like so I can share it with a larger group of people.

I tag because I find it rewarding and, in a sense, fun.

I don't really have a libido anymore, so I can't justify this hobby as self gratification. I guess I've just put too many hours int E6 to quit now.

Furries are also pretty funny, so my daily E6 routine might also give me a laugh, that's another reason, I guess.

Updated by anonymous

For me probably because it can be really funny and I think I can become useful for that.
And little bit for English.

Updated by anonymous

I just like sharing art. A lot of the discussions that go on here are just dumb as hell, like the numerous threads talking about changing tags to "stop offending" people.

Second to both of these. Hormones are funny like that.

Well, at least it's much easier to work objectively when there's no distractions happening.

I like collecting internet points. http://imgur.com/UXgefE6

I started fixing tags for my favorite posts and I often look for particular images for reference or the right piece of porn. Can't find what I'm looking for if nobody is tagging.

Upload stuff because some art disappears if there is no duplicate.

Translate Japanese for the practice.

I loved this site since i registered here, but first i only downloaded pics and didn't help the site, but over time i realised i should help this site anyway possible. Why?

Because i realised that this site really deserves help. With all it's great admins and really good content and also very well tagged (ususally) so i can find almost anything.

Later i realised that not all feral pics are tagged as feral, and a lot of antro pics are miss the anthro tag.
So i started to work on this problem and i'm working on this to this dayand i still have 5325*20 pics to tag proprely.
It's a self rewarding work because i love this site and also i can find some good feral stuff that i didn't found before because the lack of tags.

So yeah. Im glad to help this site day after day, and i hope someday itt will be the biggest furry art site.

To be honest, I love contributing to the site because I feel like I made a complete ass of myself when I first joined, and this is my way of making up for it. (Note the two neutral records on my account).

Plus, I have a very anal-retentive personality when it comes to digital mediums. I had to install my very own look-alike copy of e621 to feel as if my pictures are organized. (http://github.com/myimouto/myimouto)

I just post my stuff here because it's going to eventually find its way here anyway. I try to avoid the comment section when I can because I'm not liked on boorus or imageboards.

By unticking the first box under Comments in your account settings, you can turn comments off; they are still there, but they're invisible for you.

I like it when tags are correct. I don't like it when they're not.

I find tagging relaxing, and it's nice getting to go through a few hundred furry pics every so often. I also upload art, usually because I like it, and it's nice to see upvotes and favorites from fellow users. I think this touches on most of the stuff on your list: it's fun, constructive, and helps other people.

I like the site and the tagging ideals behind it (TWYS makes this the only site of it type where searches are worth a damn).

My tagging is usually just fixes when I see them and my uploading is never a rush a soon as it's posted but more noticing something is not here and doing it
