Topic: Thumbnails of Deleted Images

Posted under General

I was looking through my older comments and was able to see the thumbnails of deleted images I previously commented on. I'm using a Nexus 7 tablet right now. I'll check on my PC later to see of the same holds true. I'm not sure if the thumbnails only show up for comments or what. Is this true for anyone else? Regardless, this should probably be fixed soon, as even thumbnails defeat the purpose of an image having been deleted if I'm not mistaken.

I believe they changed it so that the thumbnails are now displayed.
Personally I absolutely love this change.

So that's what is meant by

"On deleted post pages, there's now a placeholder "Deleted image" image instead of no image at all."

I'm not sure I like this change, for the interest of the site. As I said before, even having a thumbnail version of the deleted image showing defeats the purpose of deleting the image in the first place.
Imagine if a DNP artist found out that a post of theirs that was supposed to have been completely deleted saw that e6 still allowed the thumbnail to exist, flipped their shit, and sued because the image they wanted removed was technically still visible.

I'm pretty sure that's not what it means. Or at least it wasn't listed in that update you linked to. All it says in that changelog is that a deleted thumbnail is now clickable to take you to the image's old page. And that when you do go to that page, you'll see that standard little white-box-with-black-text-saying-'Deleted' instead of no image at all. I think showing the thumb of an image post deletion is some kind of recent glitch. But someone like Tony would have to say for sure.

To clear things up:

Original post thumbnails showing up on the comments page is a bug, one which I've already prepared a fix for.

The "placeholder deleted image" change means that on a post/show page, if the image is deleted, you'll see the standard "Deleted" thumbnail instead of there being nothing on the page at all, which didn't really look that good.

And yes, deleted thumbnails are now clickable, since there's no point in showing you the thumbnail and not even letting you use it, and it's not like you can view the image anyway.

I like this update, but is there a reason you can't read the comments on deleted images?

Yes, the comments are tied to the post itself. If the post is removed, so are the comments.

Not quite. You can still see the tags, after all. A while back we decided that it'd be best to hide comments on deleted posts to avoid any potential problems but I'm not sure if we feel the same way today. But that's why it's currently like that.

I think it would be best to keep them hidden. Hides embarrassing evidence of past foolhardiness and all that.

I think they're still accessible over API, I mean, if you can read them on your comment history they must be available.

I once got comments of a deleted post but I can't remember how I did it
