We got nominated for an Ursa Major award!

What is it?

More formally known as the Annual Anthropomorphic Literature and Arts Award, the Ursa Major Award is presented annually for excellence in the furry arts. It is intended as Anthropomorphic (a.k.a. Furry) Fandom's equivalent of the Hugo Award ® presented by the World Science Fiction Society, mystery fandom's Anthony Award, horror fandom's Bram Stoker Award, and so forth. Anyone may nominate and vote for candidates for the Awards. These Awards are decided by the fans, not by a committee.

The category we got nominated for is Best Website; this year competing with FurAffinity, SoFurry, WikiFur, and Culturally F'd. FurAffinity won this award three times (2014, 2013, and 2012) and this is our first time being nominated.

A few notable past winners from other categories:
- Furry Force by CollegeHumor (Best Anthropomorphic Dramatic Short Work or Series, 2014)
- Twokinds by Tom Fischbach (Best Anthropomorphic Graphic Story, 2010)
- Dog's Days of Summer by Blotch (Best Anthropomorphic Other Literary Work, 2008)
- Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (Best Anthropomorphic Game, 2014)

VOTING HAS CLOSED. THE RESULTS WILL BE POSTED ON MAY 20-22. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE NOMINEES.

Huh, this seems kinda coo-
>FNAF 3 nominated for best game
aaaaaaaaand all respect and credibility is lost~

Also no Bojack Horseman for best show, but Littlest frigging Pet Shop makes it on the list? People seriously watch that crap in an unironic way!?

That's nice, and I know this site deserves it for its quality control and administration, but I somehow doubt we'll outnumber FA.

Nonsense my friend, this is war. For E6-Sparta!!! >:D

Nice to see e6 getting some recognition, but it looks like we have some harsh competition though.

don't worry, when they grow up they will graduate to "monster high" or "my little pony"

It's pretty hard for Bojack Horseman to compete by popularity considering it's only on Netflix.

Nominating a porn website... Ok why not! Hehe :3

image board, not porn site. e6 has art of all kinds (aside from human only content of course), explicit (porn), safe (non-porn), and questionable (anywhere between porn and non-porn).

FNAF3 for best game...so...jump scares count for this award? since that and the backstory are pretty much that series main selling points.

as for FA having won 3 times in a row in the past. how does the furry fandom site with one of THE most drama prone/problematic histories (compared to pretty much any other furry site) ever manage to win any award? let alone this one 3 years in a row. that's ridiculous.

and of course, congrats to e621. hopefully this site shall win.

It is fan-voted though. Usually, the most popular gets the most votes but there has been upsets

On one hand, sure, you have a point, but on the other how does an even more obscure title like Tiger's Eye happen to suddenly make the list? Or hell, even Danger Mouse for that matter.

I love so much that the "Furry Force" short films by CollegeHumor have won.

Updated by anonymous

It's an honor that the site is nominated anyway

We're all proud, like parents

I'm surprised Weasyl didn't make it on the list, considering it's a more sleek (and less buggy) alternative to SoFurry in terms of artists uploading uncompressed images to their galleries. In either case, since I don't have experience with the other fields, I voted for e621 as 1st and Wikifur as 2nd (gotta love reference sites), since the other website options have not been kind to me.

Updated by anonymous

Voted for E621 to be 1st :D Let's hope that it'll come true :3

e621 may not win the popularity contest, but at least we know it's better than FA.

So is this an award for the best furry website, or... Just what is this? I'm actually very curious to know!

Think of it as the Furry Oscars, but more than just movies and stuff

While the remake may or may not be "obscure", the name certainly isn't, at least among furry cartoon fans.

Or it shouldn't be, dammit. :P

Went and gave E6 my vote for #1. I was kinda surprised to see Undertale and fnaf up for the same award.

Updated by anonymous

Voted for e6 as my #1.

Why was FNAF3 on there as opposed to FNAF4? Didn't the both come out last year?

Is there a way to see the current total results before voting ends?

How the hell did Furry Force even get nominated? CollegeHumor deliberately portrayed all the worst of the worst kinks and fetishes in the entire fandom in the most offensive, insulting ways possible with that short, directly playing into the stigma the media outlets put on the fandom.

Because not all furries are overly sensitive and can actually take a joke?

You are the only one in this entire tread that seems offended. If you don't care about the reward then just let the people who do have their fun. No need to be such a downer.

Oh cool, the trash keeps responding to me. Good to know.

It's simple; an event like this is defined by either the reward or the competition itself.

Given that the reward for it is chiefly an empty title or acknowledgement, the only other reason for any interest is the "competition." The idea that Furaffinity is a repeat winner immediately shoots down any hopes of that - the idea that Furaffinity could compete with anything is hilarious in-and-of itself.

e621 is better than what is being offered here, with only wikifur being any remote competition due to its practical value, and there's nothing to be gained from proving it. Especially with how pathetic the alternatives are; it's like asking me to give you an award for being Number 1 Human Being able to breath and walk at the same time.

development, design, content, management, community

In terms of technical refinement, I'm pretty sure Inkbunny would be the hands down winner year over year. Of course, Inkbunny's development efforts are also probably the best documented and published too, so they get an artificial edge in that determination. For that matter, as fun as it is to badmouth FurAffinity, I do believe that website has improved since the buyout as opposed to the stagnation, self-harming, excuses, and Mickey Mouse management under the previous owners.

In terms of design, I think Inkbunny should win that too, after acknowledging that it's possibly overdesigned. E621 should get second place here. Once you know where certain things are and how to use them, e621 should have the greatest usability, but this site has needed major improvements to its presentation for as long as I've been a member. The wikis have been improved and some areas streamlined, but those are minor improvements.

In terms of content, FurAffinity should be the clear winner with the most complete artist galleries, but of course FurAffinity is probably the least searchable of the lot so that advantage is largely rendered moot. The rest should meet the bare minimum of searchability expectations, with e621's most extensive tagging efforts and search parameters giving it the lead. E621's minimum quality threshold also gives it the best average quality, but many good artist galleries are unfortunately incomplete here and by no small measure too, necessitating visits and checkups to other sites to complete viewing experiences. If only we had artist pages that were fit for purpose and not merely fit for use...

E621 should easily win community and site management, but I don't know much about how the other sites are run. My assumption is based on the integrity, promptness, and general presence of e621's administration, which I doubt the other sites bother to match.

I don't think the quality of communities from each furry site can be properly compared. What works for one group that doesn't work for another isn't really an indicator of quality, with role-playing being a prime example.

That's how I'd objectively rate the furry sites I've used based on what I know, but I'm fairly convinced most Ursa Major voters don't give a flip about voting objectively. Moreover, the Ursa Major awards designate Best _____ of 2015, so only the events and circumstances of 2015 should factor into votes. That information, however, is not made available by Ursa Major and is very difficult to extract or otherwise judge from nominated furry websites, meaning voters don't have the information or means needed to make a fair assessment. Who actually knows how all the sites were doing March 2015 compared to October 2015? Such comparisons just aren't feasible, which essentially negates any objective validity an Ursa Major might carry.

Thus, that would reduce the significance of winning an Ursa Major to that of popular vote, except who honestly expects voters to vote against their base of operations? By that logic, the Ursa Major award becomes a popularity contest, although for the record I'd be interested in actual polling on these bundled assertions. Finally, for all those reasons the Ursa Major award for Best Website is, in my eyes, merely a measure of which site has the largest, most active userbase. All the more reason, then, that e621 winning the award would send a message to the other sites and their users telling them just who has the golden dragon cock now.

So I heard good old Esix got nominated for an award. Having never heard of "The Ursa Major Awards" I looked them up, and now I'm....much more meh about the matter. Basically, as ABadBird sums up quite nicely, at least if Esix wins the "Best Website of 2015" category, it can at least serve as a reality check to FA.

Or not, who knows with folks who follow large popularity crowds over common sense and logic.

I'd just like to know how previous winners aren't barred from reëntry in the same category...it's kind of fukn ridiculous although not exactly surprising that furaffinity has won every time going back to 2012.

They are called CollegeHUMOR for a reason. Everything they do is a joke and is not supposed to be taken seriously. Also, they don't just make fun of furries, they make fun of everyone, nothing is off-limits. You'd know this if you saw their other videos

think i've seen a few things from those collegehumor people over the years. note: not all forms of humor apply to all types of people.

pretty sure i found them rather dumb instead of funny and i've never really found "dumb" to be all that funny in general. rather, i tend to find "dumb" to be annoying.

well humor isn't an exact formula that works on everyone. No comedian is automatically funny. It's just a matter of the crowd.
