Topic: Error you are already logged in and wrong password or username.

Posted under General

I'am trying to change my password and when i get the email to change it tells me that i'm already logged in and cannot change. Every time i try to log in same message appears saying your password or username is incorrect. I know my password and username are correct but tells me other wise. Please does any one why this is happening?

y are these not the same thing?

One is for people who are logged out and don't have access to their account, the other is for people who do have access to their account.

Which is why Change password requires your current password and reset password goes through the email associated with your account instead.

Kind of like every other place on the internet that has this distinction.

reset password always works as change password too, (i think i may have done things wrong for a loong time now).

Nope. From what I've seen, Reset is always "I forgot my password, Reset it for me please!" and change has always been "I'm worried somebody might have hacked my password so I need to Change it."

Curious where you've been that it works different to what the words are saying?

The change password is more of initiative/paranoia: you can change it to get out of a password trend (matching names/passwords, event name = password, etc.), or change it to one more memorable, etc. ultimately, if you have a reason to change your password, use change password. If you can't access your account because you believe the password has changed, use reset password.

Errr. ... Yup, you are right, that is the way all sites work. I may have gotten a bit used to linking my phone to accounts, so reset and change password both ask for a code sent to my phone.
Why, if someone does know your password, they will change it for you, and you will still have to go thru password reset.
Is it not safer overall to have reset option only? I'd rather trust my email (which is linked to a phone) to receive password change authorization codes.

regular password changing is easier, faster and less complicated than reseting and perfectly good option when someone wants to just change their password for whatever reason that is not trying to get stolen account back.

Sounds like you're using Reset Password and not Change Password.

Try using the change password link and see if that helps you.

Does it have anything to do with sharing google chrome on 2 different computers or having logged in multiple devices? Also i forgot to mention when it gives me the "error you are already logged in" i'am suddenly back in my account and stays logged in as long as i don't sign out.
