Topic: Windows 10 help

Posted under Off Topic

Hi, Billy Mays here with a question for tha masses... Or whoever finds this. I bought Doom and apparently can't download load it because the System & Reserved say that it's filled up to 2.62 TB. Can someone please help me figure this massive issue out?

um...check how much space you have available on your hard drive cause it sounds like that's your problem here. if you have less than the necessary 2.62TB space available then theres your problem right there.

Well there's the problem right there~

Seriously tho, not a lot of games/programs are compatible from what i've heard.

Do you have a more specific error message? Especially an error code would be useful. Besides that, try the disk clean up tool that comes with windows and just restart the entire machine.

Is your copy of Windows 10 a Fresh Full Install or an upgrade from a previous version? I am guessing it's an update...in which case the problem might be that the partition used by the previous version of windows is reserving the space in case you want to "roll back". I am uncertain as to why exactly it would be 2+ TB in size, but that may mean you need to format or otherwise delete the offending partition to correct it.

It's a full installed version that I use on my late 2014 Mac through "Bootcamp". It never had Windows 7.

Did you link everything to a Microsoft account, such as One Drive? Doing so can cause various problems including mass creation of temp files (normally associated with error reports), constant creation of restore points and issues with the cloud and automatic downloads and uploads.

Nope. The only account on Windows that I use is my Steam one.

My system is totally fine, the only problem I have with Win10 is that older games can create trouble. Many copy protections before 2008 aren't compatible with it.

(So for owners of many old games finding "no CD" cracks is necessary)

If it is a Windows running on a Mac then its some kind of Partition issue with the drive. You may need to just check the drive partitioning for a hidden System Reserved Partition.

You might want to get rid of any clutter on your pc and free up some space. Or you could use an external drive and move all of the files currently on your pc to there and make it an archive drive.

I'd check Windows backup and make sure it isn't creating a ridiculous amount of restore points.

Asking computer advice on place like this with message like that which is really easy to missread especially without screenshots or saying that what program gives the problem.

So you mean the "system and reserved" bar you can access trough Windows 10 settings to see what takes up your space, meaning that system files are taking 2.62 TB, making it impossible to download the game because you do not have enough storage?
This: http://www.lovemysurface.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/disk-cleanup6.png
(I actually never use Windows 10 settings app, because regular control panel and my computer are still superior. Also clicking that option should also give bit more info what's taking the space.)

At that point I would use software which would actually tell me what those files actually are. WinDirStat, SpaceSniffer or similar does this job.

And like said above, over 2 TB sounds pretty extreme, so it might also be entirely other problem, like partitioning. Whatever the case, I'm pretty sure you will get far better help on place dedicated to this kind of stuff, macs and bootcamps especially.

And this is why avoid going to steam community forums as they are always full of this kind of users who have made their opinions according to what they have heard from somewhere or figured out worst way possible to fix issues. It always starts to grind me when I find "doesn't work with windows 10" thread without any additional information to game I'm playing with Windows 10.

Every game and program that works with Windows Vista will almost certainly also work with 7, 8.1 and 10. Only exception I have seen was Akiba's Trip, which in itself is already barebones porting job which seemed to be glued together by amateurs. I was actually amazed that some games started working when I first upgraded from 7 to 8.1.

You could try running disk cleanup by going to your hard drives properties. It's somewhere in there. There, there's options to remove the previous build of windows (or whatever you had, windows 10 saved it in case you wanted to revert). You might have to click advanced or something like that. I'm not near a computer at the moment. But that can help free up space quite a bit. I've had partitioning problems in the past when syspreping my hard drive over to a new computer. Its a royal pain to fix. I hope its just the latter.
