Topic: Furries in VR

Posted under Off Topic

When will this become a thing?

When can I finally become an anthro dragon with expand dong properties?

When will middle-aged men be able to play shota, lolicon and My Little Pony characters, edgy teenagers can play scrawny-ass characters with arms and legs like noodles that live in Mobius, and girls can play ferals in la-la land.

I'm probably talking about something that's not Second Life, because SL is 95% capitalist trash, with terrible--uh--terribly addicted people! Everyone buys and sell virtual crap with... real... m-money?

Oh shit... Gambling in VR? C'mon, that ought to be illegal.

No, no-no, no-no. In my ideal VR world, everything is free and open, like when the world used to be Public Domain, except you can still do content-creator permissions so nobody can just copy your character, fursona or objects all willy-nilly! Although, people can try. Phf... who wants to be my retarded-looking character, anyway?~

It's the future maaaan, and everyone should join up. VR worlds will be as common as Websites someday. You'll see.

Computers will have to be more powerful first.

All around the world, or for us "rich people"?

Anyone can start an OpenSim server, and make their own rules up. But getting a solid VR implementation will take the most time to implement. Your best headset would be HTC Vive right now, with the Vive controllers. Getting a server to host... that costs money. The type of PC you'd need would be around $1500 price-range for the audio/visual quality.

It's possible to at least do that today, but nobody's doing it. Not like I wanna spend the time, either~

Sure, but are they powerful enough to make EVERYTHING look natural? That's the only way to get a good experience out of it.
You don't want VR to filled with uncanny valleys or very obvious imperfections whenever you try to look up close.

Give it 6 - 10 years. This should be the time when PCs with Graphene technology will show up. Way more efficent technology created out of a very cheap to produce material.

Making everything look natural is all about realistic physics, rigid-body dynamics, etc... The physics engine in SL is extremely basic, but could be improved with plug-ins.... Maybe?

Textures, though. Ugh.

Yeah, realism. It's a thing.

The way SL works is that people can make models, character animations, and other things such as scripts and can exchange them for in game currency, which can only be bought directly from the Linden store, and is ultimately spent on things such as plot rent. It's how pretty much every in game economy works: SL's Lindens, like EVE's PLEX, TF2's keys and Warframe's platinum, are all currencies that can be bought with real money, can be traded between players, and ultimately gets used up for in game purposes.

Your ideal game has no in game currency or any way of making money as far as I can see, which begs the question: What is the motive to make things for your game, when the creator isn't getting anything back for it like they would in SL?

The creator doesn't have to be the user. Not 100% at least.
And, well, furries I guess.
