Topic: Old old old furry comics / series/sci-fi?

Posted under General

So I was digging in the back of my mind trying to remember two book series that I had been reading at the suggestion of a mate at the time. Thanks to google, I was able to recover those memories. One was the Man-Kzin wars (all this got started because I was reading the Memory Alpha wiki for Star Trek the Animated series, which I watched re-runs of on Nick when I was like... 7 or 8, and saw the name Larry Niven... I was like, huh, that name sounds familiar. Then I realized, oh, durrr... Man-Kzin Wars. I was pretty surprised to learn that the Kzinti were actually made additions to the Star Trek universe), the other was S. Andrew Swann's "Forests of The Night."

Did some Google Image searches for Nohar to show my bf and came across an old piece of fan art on VCL of Jack Salem and Nohar Rajasthan. That got me to googling Jack Salem and an article on Wikifur stated that the character first made an appearance in an amateur press production called "Rowrbrazzle" and had been around as early as 1979.

So anyways, longwinded set up over now, can the fine folks here at e6 point me in the direction of some more old, serious or dark furry comics? I've already been exposed to Jack, liked the story and theme (and depression factor of some of the scenes, particularly the one where this dude's dad offs himself right in front of his son after he 'came out' to him) but I gotta say that I wasn't really too keen on the jaggedness of the art style.

So ummm, yeah. Something like... I dunno, I'm open to anything with dark themes, hard sci-fi, or "struggles for acceptance" type stuff. Don't get me wrong, love the porn and that's like, the fandom's number one export, but I'm bored and I wanna get into reading something again.

Don't know, if Blacksad can be counted as "old" - that's it, with "Somewhere between the Shadows" being first-published in 2000. Definitely not sci-fi, but as for "dark and serious" - detective stories from cold war era in film-noir style could suffice, I suppose.

"In 2006 Variety reported that a movie adaptation of Blacksad was in development. To be produced by Thomas Langmann and directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk), it was originally scheduled for a 2009 release. Alexandre Aja, (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) had also expressed interest in directing the film,[8] which was reportedly budgeted around $100 million.[9] However, the project never went into production and there has been no mention of it in the press since 2008."

Fuck.

And I guess I should open up my genre horizons a little more.
Remember that 1994 german animated film, Felidae?

I thought that was pretty cool. I guess, something like that... but with more killing, prejudice, etc.
