Topic: n00b to e621 and can't submit due to new account that's not 1week old

Posted under General

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9985774/ -I was going to submit this, but found I can't.. if someone else can.. groovy. Also please mark artist as my name "Kacey Katt" and not my screen-name of "Aroura" and as the original lined art artist, keihound.
I suppose character tags would help.. it's Wind-Dancer and Twilight

Hi, kacey. I've temporarily upgraded your account to "privileged" level which will allow you to begin posting immediately!

If you wish to make an artist tag, simply add the artist name with "artist:" in front of it, like this:

artist:kacey_katt

If you wish to make a character tag, simply add the character name with "char:" in front of it, like this:

char:wind-dancer

So that's all it takes to get a privileged account these days, huh?

He said "temporarily", genius.

Regardless. I didn't realize we were just handing out privileged accounts (temporary or not) to people who want to post their art, but screw some person who wants to post someone else's art, they've got to wait the full week like every other shmuck.

The purpose of the wait time is to deter abuse of the site, that's all. It's not something everyone has to go through just because we want them to. If it's obvious that someone isn't going to try flooding the site with crap, then there's no point in having the one-week waiting period. If we had any way of omitting the 1 week wait time for accounts, we would do it. But unfortunately, the only way right now is to temporarily make them privileged so they don't have to worry about it.

And yes, we'd like to encourage artists to upload their own artwork. If all they need is a temporary privileged status to do so, then I don't think that's too big of a deal. The account type would get reverted back after the 1 week period.

There are lots of contributing users that helped turning this page into what it is today with countless quality uploads, tagging, pooling and "community activity" yet they won't get privileged status any time soon...
The same goes for positive records. Some people get a positive record for wiping their butt clean, others get a minus for uploading two dnp pieces in two years...
I think the responsible people don't realize just how happy they could make some users by giving out a few more treats.

If you take a look at the user records and moderator actions you'll see that we're giving out more positive records and account upgrades lately. We can't upgrade everyone deserving at the same instant. We're working on it.

Yeah, all at the same time won't cause issues, no sir.

There are a few who certainly don't seem like they deserve a privileged account compared to those who spend tons of time to enhance the site. "Not being a nuissance" surely isn't a valid reason, but I'm not calling anyone out though.

Upgrades like that aren't going to be happening anymore in the future, don't worry. It's one of those things though where it'd kind of be a dick-move on our part to give it to you and then take it away again just because of our own mistake(s). Those that previously received an upgraded account are simply going to have to be the lucky beneficiaries of e621's screw-up.

We've got a much better system/procedure in place now for admin communication, and account upgrades are something that will always have to be discussed among several admins, while also leaving an opportunity for other admins to jump in and contribute to the discussion if they so desire. Previously this was not being done, or at least not adequately or often enough.

It's good that a user considered for such an upgrade now relies on more than one administrator. Having a system like such prevents any bias or misdemeanor of an individual. As for those who were "mistakes," I understand that nobody is perfect, but I think it will hurt the standards of account levels. Oh well.

I think there should be an additional step between member and privileged, something like "good user".
The difference then being that a couple limitations (only 6 searchterms at a time, only 2 FFD/ 150 edits per hour) are a bit relaxed.
Would be more than enough for me at least. I use tag scripts every now and then but the thumbnails are too small for most of the things I'd do with a script.

Personally, I hope to just always be left alone. If I can go for years with 0 positive 0 neutral 0 negative, I'll be happy. You guys can have your merit badges. ;-)

Didn't even bother to upload like they wanted to, and they have to have known they could, since they posted again after they were told. Wow.
