Topic: Can Greykitty be put on the DNP list?

Posted under General

According to her FurAffinity Journal:

"Please do not re-post my works there. I don't like that site or ones similar to it and I don't want my work to be on there. I'm tired of having to contact the owners to have things removed and it would save the site owners the trouble of having to deal with another artist that is requesting take downs. So yeah, I'd appreciate it a lot! Thanks. :) "

Least it's all civil. Always found it a bit strange though, 3/4 of my FA follows were from following source links from here :P

They just need to ask a mod.

It's interesting how you are reluctant to put people on the DNP list and demand the artist and no one but the artist to
fill out the DNP request and even verify the artist via a verification code while ignoring journals that clearly state their disapproval of their art appearing here.

I am against DNP lists except for paysites (that could be irl trouble I believe) but this troll like situation is distasteful.

Nobody but themselves understands those artists. They should be happy for the free advertisement.

Your trying to hard to make this into something. It makes perfect sense that the sit would follow specific patterns to do things. That is how a site is done WELL

An artist can disapprove of their art being on another site but still allow it to continue. That's why they have to actually fill out a takedown request so we know that they don't want their art here at all. This isn't hard to understand.

It's accountability.

We don't control what goes on in FurAffinity. An artist may write a journal complaining about their art being uploaded to e621, then delete it the following day. If we removed all of their art from e621 in that interim and users complained, we'd have nothing to point to.

If we have a takedown requests and DNP inclusions on our records, we'll know exactly when, why, and how an artist's works were removed. If any part of that process is found to have been faulty (the request maker being an impersonator, the artist changing their mind, etc.), then it can be rectified quickly and conclusively.

Also, a lot of people like to assume they know exactly what an artist is thinking. They very, very rarely do. If the artist makes a request of us himself in his own words, we can hold him to that.

If you see an artist talking about how they don't want their work posted outside of FurAffinity/InkBunny/wherever, don't try to act all noble and request their DNP status on e621 yourself. Message the artist that their work is being posted on e621, ask if they're okay with it, and if they're not tell them they can talk to the administration themselves to acquire DNP status. Throw in a link to e621's contact page while you're at it.

I find this contact page hilarious.

So, is [email protected] for broken site functionality ONLY, or is it the catchall for all situations not mentioned (and most of the situations mentioned, for that matter)?

Char is the lead administrator. The point is that users should register any complaints and questions with Char, and he'll disseminate them to the appropriate staff. It's much easier than forcing every user to memorize/look up which administrator is in charge of what every time they want to say something.

That "Please note this is for broken site functionality only" line is a holdover from an old version of the contact page. I think Varka's email used to be there in place of Char's.

Do you honestly expect us to trawl FA and inkbunny and personal gallery sites for artists putting up journal entries/blog posts/whatever requesting their work not be reposted? That's insane and a ridiculous expenditure of time.

Not to mention that it's beneficial to keep the DNP list as small as possible, not only to give us more artists to post art from, but because the longer the DNP list is and the longer it takes to scroll through, the more of a chance someone will just go 'eh, fuck it...' and not bother checking to see if their artist is on there.

I don't think anyone here is looking through artist pages specifically for complaints against unauthorized distribution.

What I think I'm seeing is that there are a lot of fans of artists that follow their blogs, journals, or whatever, and when they see the artist complain their first reflex is to emulate that opinion and launch their own complaints on the artist's behalf.

Users fancying themselves as some kind of executor of an artist's will is the mistake being made here. Where and how an artist's work is distributed is the prerogative of the artist himself. A viewer can engage artists in dialogue about their distribution policies, maybe even make suggestions, but what an artist does with their work is their decision, and enforcing their decision is their responsibility.

The point is that the combination of "Contact [email protected] FOR THIS AND NOTHING ELSE" and "Contact [email protected] for ERRYTHING" is funny. Also, "Please note, [[email protected]] is not for any of the things listed above. All emails sent to this address will be responded to, but if it's one of the topics listed above you will be asked to re-submit it to [[email protected] (unless it's takedown or ads)]". That page is a clusterfuck of redundant and contradictory information and could be replaced with three (or four, if you insist on maintaining the takedown for my art/my characters distinction) lines of content.

The other point is that I started laughing out loud somewhere around the third mention of char's email address, which probably says something interesting about my sense of humor or lack of sleep.

The contact page is formatted like that for other sites that will surely one day use ouroboros and may have different points of contact for each thing.

Basically what null said. The software that e621.net uses for the site (Ouroboros) is intended to be useful for more than just e621.net, so you or anyone else can request a copy of the software and start your own site if you wanted. As a result, since I've made myself the point of contact for just about everything on e621.net, my name shows up in all the contact spots. They could each be different for different sites.

Still, it's something that will eventually be cleaned up, I imagine whenever we overhaul e621's look/theme in the hopefully not-too-distant future.

Theirs also been the issue of false TD's and DNP's where people imitating the artists would request it to get artwork they don't like here removed. One bad egg spoils the whole batch, or however that saying goes.

Yeah I went by Psyco_Charmander on there. I was one of the 3 original admins when we restarted the site in December 2003.

I remember some sort of off-the-wall comic strips related to administrating that site. I think I have a few of them in this mess of a hard drive somewhere...

Probably not, honestly. :P They were just meant to be silly little things. I'm not sure if they'd live up to e621's quality standards or not (it's been a loooong time since I've seen them).

Dude...there is some absolute shit on this site, and I think it has a right to be here because it's genuine artistic expression and not just some little kid fucking around in Paint. There is a difference between poorly-executed art and random crap.

Besides, the comics might not have been done by Picasso, but they're fairly decent.

KloH0und's right. Give it a shot and see. They might get approved for the nostalgia factor if nothing else.

Alright, well, I've got roughly 118 gigs of images to sort through, so I'll put them up when I actually find them.
