Aliasing dawn → dawn_(disambiguation)
Link to alias

Reason:

dawn can mean the time of day,
post #50158 post #224419 post #586184

or it can be a multitude of character names. Looking through, I see a few different furry characters and Dawn from Pokemon (who should have a dawn (pokemon) tag).

dusk doesn't have as much of an issue with this, though maybe we should make day (time), night (time), dawn (time), and dusk (time) tags. day and night may also need to be disambiguation tags? Unsure.

Instead of dawn (time), it could be aliased to sunrise maybe? How else would you know that it's dawn?

Same problem would arise with sunrise/sunset. You have no idea which it is.

If twilight applied to the sunrise and sunset, I would say alias the two to twilight.

True, there's usually no way to tell if it's dawn or dusk. ...except in the rare cases where there's a visible clock or some such.

So yeah, aliasing both to a single tag might be the solution.

Problem is, twilight refers to when the sun is below the horizon completely.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawn - "Not to be confused with sunrise." D:

As Shylok said, there's not much of a way to differentiate between sunrise/sunsets, so those tags might need a correction. I personally think that sunrise/sunset are for images where the sun is visibly setting or rising on the horizon, while dawn/dusk are for the general color scheme/lighting conditions of that time of day.

Several sites state that twilight is the time when the sun is not visible, and since I'm proposing that sunset/sunrise only be applied when the sun is visible, twilight could work for aliasing dawn and dusk. This is a really neat site.

This is definitely an iffy set of tags since it's hard to tell what's what. Maybe sunset/sunrise dusk/dawn all-encompassing tags are in order? Not sure...

Da, this is good suggestion. +1.

Either way this is going to need to be disambiguated, so I went ahead and approved it.

Is there any tag for dawn as a time yet? I want to make the wiki page for this, but as far as this discussion here has currently got the page will only have dawn_(pokémon).

If I recall correctly, Dusk and Dawn cannot be used as a tag, because it's not easy to tell time in a still image. 10am is identical to 2pm, etc.; Dusk and Dawn are both events on when the sun is over the horizon, going up or down can't be determined without a clock, and the colors of the sky can be changed artistically. Instead, a tag that could work is Twilight, the hours before in sight and after the sun is out of sight because of the horizon. It could be adapted to include those two events, but it's not perfect, so if you can think of a better word for it, do so.

->Sun_Eclipse
->Day
->Sun_above_horizon day, just shi above the horizon color-shift in sky present
->Sun_below_horizon night, sun below horizon, periphery of horizon still sun lit
->Night
->City_lit

Also a note on twilight while its a good name, i fear itl be miss tagged as relating the the twilight saga novels alot rather then a time describer. I feel it best here to just get to the point of the action rather then using special names

Two statements: what does Sun_Eclipse mean? When it's crossed/crossing the horizon, or when an solar eclipse happened? Secondly, as stated Twilight is when there is light out, but the sun is below the horizon, so Sun_below_horizon could be replaced with that.

How about some examples on-site to show what you mean for each tag, or explain how each apply to an image?

*post written edit* twilight already needs to be disambiguated, using it like twilight_(time) or twilight_(Sky) would benefit it. Immediate tags are: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess; Twilight Sparkle (MLP); character names; the aforementioned time, and the long stretch but the Twilight Zone.

pardon meant solar_eclipse^^;

As for twilight i understand what it is but as said above i fear more are going relate that to the series of novels and movie series that go by that name rather then the time. worth noting i wasnt aware the sun being below the horizon was creteria for twilight, actually thought it was synonymous to sunset and sunrise till i read this. City_lit would apply to night sky that is visibly lit up by light pollution of cities. basically the opposite of solar_eclipse which would show a day sky that is shadowed over.

edit: then wouldnt it be better to just name it by the actual action -rather then just adding more to a disambiguation and still have a high risk of mistags?- In line with the tagging format already used for tagging groups like "hand_on_*"

Ok, I thought of two things that may need to instead tag the sky's color over the position of the sun. When the sun is visible and dipping into the horizon, your tag is appropriate, but when you can't see the sun you can't tell the difference between early twilight and the normal sunrise/sunset. Also, when the sky is colored that way, but the sun is above the horizon, like midday.

So, how about twilight_sky to name the color of the sky during that period, and then your tags to name the specific events.

just noting these tags focus on sun position, not direction or time and Sun_below_horizon would cover twilight in the propose that you mean.
Or did you mean things like portraits where a sky may be lit behind the figure but the sun is outside the visible picture field, in that case twilight_sky would certainly be useful when position is ambiguous^^

My suggestion would be the twilight tag be twilight_(time), instead of twilight_sky

example: post #1030583 is tagged with dusk but doesn't show any sky.

At Fur Affiniity is titled as "Stumbled Upon A Forbidden Forest (Night) NSFW"
