1+ for implication, we already have horizontal cloaca(common form) implied to cloaca so only make sense carrying it over to the less common form.

One goes from left to right, as in the left leg(ish) has one end of the genitalia and the right(ish) has the other, whereas the vertical one goes top to down, as in the tail side has one end and the stomach side has the other.
