I don't think an alias is necessary if you just remove the suffixes from deadpliss_(artist). Don't act on what I say, it just seems a bit too much of an action IMO. It is just what the suffix is meant for, if it becomes needed the alias would need to be undone and then possibly cleaned out.

-1. There is a clear difference between the artist Deadpliss and his OC who also is called Deadpliss - an example of can be found @ post #844640 - even though he's normally the one who draws him.

I recommend turning Deadpliss into a disambiguation tag, and keeping the Deadpliss_(Artist) tag while adding a Deadpliss_(Character) tag as well.

In cases where character name and artist name are the same, I agree that they should be disambiguated.
