Nah, critical hard-drive failure and apparently no proper backups.

Does something catastrophic happen to u18chan every other week? It sure seems that way from the quantity of forum posts about it here.

Nah, it's still the same issue.

So... they lost everything? my heart...

That's just some poor management right there.

And for some reason something like this can happen, on 2016 where storage space is one of the cheapest things available and on server side none the less.

Side projects run out of your own pocket usually don't get the treatment they require both from a developer's side, as well as the management side.

"We will be pushing live the old software today ater we finish fixing it up (we have a copy of an older rev), after this we will be continuing work on the new site."
I understand this site doesn't have enough support, but this statement was released Wednesday. I am starting to have withdraws, but at least I have e621 to tide me over.

on the topic of not maintaining proper backups for a website, i just remembered a IB journal i read last week. something about Y!Gallery getting hit by a hacker. don't think they had proper backups either so the whole site was pretty much destroyed in that one attack.
ah, heres the announcement.
"We are extrememly sorry and devestated that this has happened"
:/ i don't think that's gonna make tweaker, among others, feel much better about something preventable (well, mostly...if you keep the site backed up).

Man, it's still so weird seeing that name associated with furry websites and porn. I remember back when all that I knew them for was their involvement in the Sonic scene. Then I discovered their Fur Affinity page while looking into why they were kicked off the Sonic Retro staff.
I too remember then.

I can't be the only one who thinks it's weird seeing a Kriegsmarine U-boat associated with a furry porn site.

I hate (I'm really not exaggerating) when people don't keep offline backups of sites, even just yearly backups would be fine for a minimal setup, then at least you can lick your wounds and get back on track eventually.

Well, isn't that just great... I thought they had a relatively recent backup from 2015...
