Original flavor energy drinks: the shit of nightmares.

Updated by anonymous

Not a fan of energy drinks. Tried Monster, it was nasty. Tried NOS, it was weird and I kept thinking that I was drinking edible nitrous. Tried Red Bull, it did not give me wings, I was disappointed and bambozzled.

Best energy drink imo is orange juice

Updated by anonymous

Jasmine green tea with milk. First one tasted weird as fuck, tenth one had me running around like the duracell bunny, twentieth one was giving me heart palpitations.

Updated by anonymous

Well after having 2 of them in a short timeframe and having random bouts of feeling like my heart was going to pop I've been scared off ever drinking them again.

Original flavor, every time I've tried and no matter the drink or brand, has always tasted like shit. Go for other flavors. Hell, I'm drinking a Punch Monster right now, which is unfairly tasty.

I can't recall the last time I drank an energy drink, but I do remember the time I had a glass of wine with a big plate of pasta, and I got heartburn and had to walk around outside for 20 minutes until it went away.

For mixing: Monster.
For drinking without mixing: Cranberry Juice.

sugar flavoured coffee with good marketing.

Allot of energy drinks have no more caffeine then a strong coffee and their other ingredients don't show any effect in clinical trials. The difference is that people will guzzle an energy drink with alcohol or while doing high intensity activities or by the bucket load.

Venom Mango was pretty good. They stopped selling it here. Probably for the best because caffeine makes me feel unpleasantly weird.

In Taiwan there was a drink that roughly translated to "Devils Burning Blood". The guide who introduced it to me poured it into a glass...only it didn't pour...it oozed...it was deep crimson in color and bubbled slightly, but had the consistency of something like molasses (it was served extremely cold, like how some people like their Jägermeister). I swallowed one mouthful and immediately gagged...it literally felt like it was crawling down my throat. I never learned what was in it, but the guide said water was the second ingredient...which is usually a bad sign for a drink.

Now I am much more boring about Energy Drinks. I will sometimes mix a Red Bull with Orange Juice or pick up an Amp Lemonade if I see one.

Fuck, I just had an energy drink.

You know what's worse than energy drinks? Caffeine pills.

You should drink like, iced tea instead @Mutisija.

I liked energy drinks. I especially liked the flavor of the overwhelming majority that I tried. They tasted extra sweet and exotic, and I viewed their flavors as generally superior to every soda.

Unfortunately, energy drinks also disrupt my ability to concentrate or think deeply, as if I need significantly more willpower than normal to collect my thoughts and keep them focused on a single idea. I wonder if that's comparable to living with ADHD. Coffee does not have that effect on me, although I don't drink coffee to the point of hyperstimulation because it usually tastes like dirt to me. None of these drinks have ever heightened my alertness or alleviated drowsiness in a meaningful way that my body wasn't already able to achieve in its state of restfulness at the time of consumption. And then there's the crash afterward.

My most uncomfortable experience with an energy drink was on my first long road trip (15+ hours) where I had barely slept the night before. I bought a 5 Hour Energy drink at a gas station, drank it all at once, and for the rest of the day I did not feel comfortable in my own skin. No sitting or standing position allowed me to feel "at rest", and my hands seemed to throb or twitch occasionally, sometimes appearing swollen and red, other times appearing weak and pale. I was fucked up.

I don't drink energy drinks any more because I make the conscious effort to cut out needlessly sugary or otherwise high-carb foodstuffs from my diet. Although I still eat and drink some "bad" food items, I limit my exceptions to foods I genuinely enjoy, and I deem energy drinks not worth their cost, not to my diet, nor to my state of mind.

Tried Pipeline Punch Monster? Everything else is nasty, but that one's good.
I also like Rockstar JUICED or BOOM!.

Craziest experience was probably just Monster KAOS. Disguesting orange flavored shit but somehow I couldn't bring myself to dump it down the sink. I was just sitting there sipping it and grimacing all day.

I don't blame you. Those drinks aren't cheap and the last thing you want to do after spending so much on it is chuck it out.

They are? I didn't even buy it, somebody else did and asked if I wanted one--Only "okay" to them compared to their favorite Java monsters. I even told them it was "Kind of disgusting." They know I don't like Monster's Cough Syrup flavor and just shrugged and said "Yeah, that's okay. Don't worry about it." Sincerely. I can tell when they're being sarcastic.

I love both Pipeline Punch and Khaos. I buy 4-packs of Khaos a couple times a week. It's really, really sweet, though I'd say it's better now than it was when it wasn't a Juice.

Fritz Kola. In a 330ml bottle is the same amount of caffeine as in a 1.5l Coca Cola bottle, at a fraction of the sugar content.

Otherwise I just brew my own coffee at about twice the "normal" strength with one of those Aeropress thingies.

green tea can be great. think i used to drink Lipton's green tea for a good while till i burned out on it and the flavor turned on me and it started tasting nasty (same with coca cola long ago though that may be due, in part, with the shitty recipe they use.). :/ as for caffeine... that stuff doesn't do anything to me. just makes me wanna go to sleep after a while.

and given how you all are saying energy drinks taste nasty, i doubt i want to bother with any of them. assuming any of them even worked as intended.

and no to coffee as well. never had much interest in that either.

if i can sometimes get my sleep schedule just right and start lasting 20 hours a day without sleep (it CAN be done!) then that's good enough for me. just that's hard to maintain after a while as the sleep catches up to me eventually. :/

just so long as i don't wind up going 3+ days without any sleep at all. i remember doing that once. that does not end well. especially if, no matter what your doing, you start getting really bored and everything starts feeling increasingly tedious..

I just drink sugary lemonade. I may buy a mochaccino on occasion, if I'm willing to deal with stomach trouble later in the day.

It starts a vicious cycle. Ingesting caffeine gives you an energy boost but leaves you drained afterward, so you ingest some caffeine to get another energy boost but leaves you drained afterward, so you ingest caffeine for another energy boost but leaves you drained afterward. Ingest caffeine, get boost, get drained. Ingest, boost, drain. Ingest, boost, drain. Ingest, boost, drain. Ingest, boost, drain. Ingest, boost, drain. It doesn't end.

I use this cycle smartly. Get boosted during the day, then stop drinking so that the drain happens when I want to sleep. That way I ensure I can actually sleep for 8h straight without stupid interruptions.

Otherwise the caffeine addiction is temporary. The withdrawal symptoms vanish after about 3 days, 5 at most for very heavy drinkers.

im caffeine addict and i know it. but i have no intentions in stopping drinking energy drinks bcs i kinda use caffeine for self medication when i dont have meds. caffeine works in similar manner as my actual meds. its just weaker but still allows me to function a bit better in my every day life. i tone down my energy drink drinking only when im on my meds.

I bought a bottle of NOS that had around 380 ML of caffeine once it was the first time I've actually felt caffeine in a long time I loved it.
Unfortunately now I can only find ones with like a quarter of as much caffeine so energy drinks don't do anything for me although I still buy some if I want to try the flavor.
I also tried 5 hour energy I was disappointed it tasted gross and didn't do anything.
Now I've been buying a lot rockstar lime freeze I think it's the most delicious beverage I've ever drank it tastes almost like carbonated lime juice with just the right amount of sweetness added plus it's my favorite color. Oh and the energy part doesn't do shit for me but I don't care because it tastes so good.

coffee.

energy drinks suck.

they dont really do much to energize me anyway, but neither does coffee or soda or energy bars. Caffeine doesnt really work on me.

i do think i am addicted to that shit though. after awhile ill get a craving for soda or iced coffee (only type of coffee i drink). doesnt really affect me like a drug withdrawal but man i feel the cravings. who knows.

Original isn't the worst "original flavor" I've tried (that would be a tie between NOS, Rockstar, and Full Throttle) but it's still pretty crap. I'm not big on lemon-lime flavors, though. If by "the blue one" you mean the lo-carb kind it's surprisingly not too bad. The Ultra line of Monster is pretty smooth without an overpoweringly-sweet flavor. Of those I really like Ultra Sunrise. It tastes like clementines to me.

Yeah, the blue Monster wasn't bad, but it's something I wouldn't drink regularly, y'know? Like, if someone offered me some, I'd take it. I feel like I would get a heart attack if I drink too much energy drinks. I'm already a high-energy dude at default, and drinking an energy drink would shift me into maximum overdrive

you'd probably begin to move/vibrate at the speed of light then just phase out of this reality

Most are just plain bad for you. And outside of Gatorade and Powerade, they don't really taste that good either.

I distinctly remember the makers of 5 Hour Energy keeping quiet about what's in their product. Isn't that reassuring...

Whenever someone says energy drink, the image I immidiately think about.

(EDIT: Didn't mean to say "do", meant to say "I don't", but in anyway)
Do not drink coffee, energy drinks or anything similar. I did at higher education a bit because it was cheap and cold in local caffeteria, but all it did was make me shaky and body couldn't handle more than one. This is also why I hate waking up early in the morning, because I do not like pump myself full of stuff simply because I need to stay awake.

What is it with energy drinks being consumed and advertised towards groups that simply do not need them anyway. If you are "gamer", you most likely do not even stand up, so you do not need energy for anything. If you are a kid, drinking that poison won't make you any cooler in the end.

Another thing I do not understand when some say they prefer energy drink taste. That's the most awful tasting drink in the world, but I guess I have to just believe that because they do sell energy drink flavor long drinks in shop.

Who says cranberry juice ain't an energy drink?! I demand to meet them, 'cause it damn well works like one for me! Sweet, sour as fuck, sends chills down my spine and kicks me three times!

But in honesty, I will swear that certain juice brands act like energy drinks. I don't exactly remember the brand names, but it does work. But if you want a legitimate energy drink, the blue color Monster versions are the ones that tasted the best before mixing.

It depends on how you define energy drink. Any drink (besides water) provides energy but the ones loaded with stimulants (eg. caffeine) increase your energy output (and leave you feeling like parboiled shit afterwards).

When I used to ski regularly (as in, 3-4 times per week, can't anymore due to time commitments), I'd drink energy drinks like water. Pretty much the only one I do is the Red flavored Rockstar. Still get them pretty regularly. When I worked at Jimmy John's, people (myself included) would drink energy drinks all the time, especially managers. We have a food prep sink in the back that ended up being the designated space for our drinks, and it'd always be lined with energy drinks. That's how we're so freaky fast: Our employees are amped up all the time.

That was typo on my part. Meant to say "I do not" and left the "I" out accidently. At least it's nice to know that someone is actually reading stuff I write on the internetz.

It's funny how coffee and alcohol has become this largely accepted consumeables. Nobody questions twice when someone says they need morning coffee and at least ten cups of it more a day, weekend stories of drunk people usually just gather interest.

Don't actually mind couple ciders sometimes, but it's not like I need it every week.
