Topic: Favorite TAS (tool-assisted speedrun)?

Posted under Off Topic

(For anyone that's unsure of what exactly a TAS is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool-assisted_speedrun).

Are there any of these that you've particularly enjoyed watching?

For me, it's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ9SYw8VgjY

I don't know what to say except that it trumps itself over and over. Just... beautiful.

Edit: For anyone who doesn't feel like watching the entire video...
05:07 - Ice wall glitch
05:28 - Ice wall glitch, background disappears
06:08 - Getting boss' power offscreen
08:22 - Floating, followed by getting boss' power offscreen
09:22 - Ice wall/lightning bolt glitch
11:38 - Background fails to load properly, followed by two of the boss' mines circling each other
12:46 - Best use of the lightning bolt glitch ever
13:50 - Remote mine glitch OHKs boss
14:54 - Ice wall/lightning bolt glitch, followed by some VRAM corruption
15:12 - Background fails to load, followed by ice wall/lightning bolt glitch and increasing graphics tipsiness
21:34 - Insanity
22:15 - Even more ridiculous than 21:34, followed by player death being registered as a victory
26:54 - BGM breaks, followed by remote mine OHK

Kind of lessens the meaning of a speedrun, don't you think? Not trying to nitpick, but it's like saying you started the game and entered a cheat to instantly win and calling that a speedrun.

The appeal of it, in some regards, is because it lets people "show off."
Super Smash Bros. TAS is a barrel of giggles.

I like them because I'm fascinated by glitches and bugs and I love seeing what kinds of things you can do in games when you push it to the limit.

I consider tool-assisted speedruns and 'classic' speedruns two completely separate things which shouldn't be compared to each other.

Casuals.

Runner uses two very simple tools (a pair of crude macros to make his bunnyhops and boosts more consistent). Everything else in the video is done entirely by hand.

Edit: Turns out this guy also holds the world record for Metroid (18:35 unassisted, about 10 seconds slower than the first TAS) among other things. Man's a wizard.

tool assisted runs are about as impressive as successfully putting on pants

I know this is an ancient topic but TASes are cool so

I would say that my favourite TAS would be the Super Mario Bros 3 "Backdoor" ACE TAS from AGDQ this year. It was just insane. Although the conversation between dwangoAC and mitchflowerpower while they watched it was probably what sold it.

also, Huskeee got banned? Wut
