Aliasing fire_type → pokémon
Link to alias

Reason:

These have been discussed a couple of times, and the conclusion was always that these aren't needed. Yet they keep getting tagged and it's starting to get out of hand now. Fire_type is tagged for 75 posts at the moment.

Also alias the rest: dark_type, electric_type, water_type, psychic_type, grass_type, fighting_type, normal_type, ground_type, flying_type, ghost_type, fairy_type, ice_type, dragon_type, steel_type, and poison_type.

Alternately, if we're keeping these, they should be implicated directly from the pokemon. So they won't have to be manually tagged. 'course, that would require over thousand implications, but...

(Someone's even tagged combos (psychic/fairy_type etc), but those can be cleaned manually.)

Problem with that: Pokemon Hybrids. Also, "Alternate types," such as the Delta Bulbasaur in post #924984 might get tagged with their base pokemon instead of the delta (or other) prefix.

So yeah, I'm not really a fan of these problematic tags either, but what about it? Deny or can someone come up with more reasons to keep them?

If people are using them... They don't really harm anything, but they'll have to be used for things that aren't pokemon too.

Alright so I am in favor of removing this tag. If we don't remove it then we might as well make an implication, a messy one at that, and/or we'll have to make the water type, grass type, etc and I'm not even sure they are worth keeping

I say we can get rid of them.

It's unnecessary fluff, and I feel like there should be more of a focus on core tags than less useful tags - encouraging users to tag things which actually are useful in general for searching.

Besides, it seems like typing would often qualify as outside knowledge. Who'd look at, say, Quagsire and say "yeah that's totally a ground Pokemon"?

What if someone has a Type-fetish?

How would they find relevant posts without searching [pkmn1 pkmn2 ... pkmn3456]?

There's no other grouping like this on the site, TMK

That's what sets are for: collecting posts into groupings such as 'fire-type Pokemon'.
