Topic: Usain Bolt = Real Life Rainbow Dash?

Posted under Off Topic

Usain Bolt is the worlds fastest runner. Rainbow Dash is Equestria's fastest flyer.

Head Cannon for Rainbow Dash is that she is very "lazy" dispite her amazing potential. This just in: Usain Bolt skipped the opening of the Olympics because he "was feeling lazy".

With me so far?

Now in truth, I freaking LOVE Bolt. I mean I really REALLY do. At least on the Physical/Atheletic level. I wish I could just have his sheer physical potential.

I have said before that I wish I was super powerful and that if I had super speed (amount other physically based super things) that such pull be a dream come true. And while I may already have greatly increased Dexterity, what good is "super slight of hand" as a power if it can only save people within my reach?

That's one main reason I adore Bolt. His abilities are far better than mine in terms of utility, especially in the situations that I find my own abilities faulty simply because a need I seek to meet is "nonlocal", for lack of a better term.

The point is I love Bolt because of his amazing capabilities in Sprinting. And so no offense to anyone including Usain or even Rainbow Dash, but if I could have Bolt's power (yes, I'm calling his [super] speed a "power") I wouldn't waste it by being "Lazy". Especially not when so much would be expected of me simply for having it.

But still, I can understand taking an occasional break. I absolutely adore Bolt. No matter what. So as long his abilities aren't entirely wasted, it's all good. Besides, if he wants to take an occasional lazy day, then why not.

As long as he doesn't completely turn into a Rainbow Dash Headcannon where every time you look he's slacking off, ultimately wasting his incredible Power, he's okay in my book.

But what you you guys think? Is he bound to become a real life Rainbow Dash, or do you think he is above that?

Thanks for the theory, Kristal, but MLP is an animated kids show. The fastest man in the world does not aspire to be a speedy pony-pegasus.

You. I like you. You're funny.

The way you said that so "Literally" actually made me laugh. Thanks for that.

Erm, never heard of Sonic the Hedgehog, the Flash (Wally West, specifically, I believe), Speedy Gonzales, or any other speedsters that are extremely gifted but lazy?

As a a person who's never watched a single episode of any MLP cartoon, what makes her special here?

To answer your first question, I have, but just figured that Rainbow Dash would be more relatable to far more people here given the nature of the site.

Rambling About Speedsters:

In fact, one of my favorite cartoon speedsters was Roadrunner. Not that Riadrunner was Lazy, but (s)he always outsmarted Coyote dispite always seeming so "derpy" or non attentive. As if his actions were totally nonintentional no matter the outcome.

As for noncartoon speedsters, my favorite is Daphne from "Heros" Every time I see Brea in something now, my first thought is, "Hey, I know her. That's Daphne." (Usually followed by, "I forgot her real name, though. But yeah, I'll just call her Daphne, cause that's how I know her most intimately.") Daphne is so cool.

To answer your second question more directly than I just did, nothing really. Like I said above, it was just the first character that came to my mind that was a cartoon and could be very recognizable to a greater amount of people, and could be easily relatable to the idea of Laziness dispute great potential.

Also, I suppose my own interest in MLP could possibly somewhat serve to further account for my partialness to using Rainbow Dash as my subject for comparison too. So I apologize for my "neglect" of these other characters that you mentioned as I clearly did not think of them first.

You think MLP is more relavant than Sonic?

I very much doubt any elite level athlete can be considered lazy. Even if they call themselves lazy and bails out on obligations they don't really want to do, they're not lazy, at worst simply careless or arrogant. I don't believe in "selective laziness".

Aspiring to become "just as good" as a fictional character is probably not a good aspiration, much better to set up concrete goals and compete with yourself instead of comparing yourself to others, especially if these others aren't real.

I wouldn't know either way. That isn't the point.

My bed seems just fine, thank you. I don't think I need to go anywhere else.

True.

IDK about that.

Sure setting more realistically achievable goals is a better way to motivate yourself in the long run, but the problem isn't in what motivates you. It's in being (and staying) motivated at all.

Thus, if you choose to train hard enough to one day be just as fast as say, Rainbow Dash (or Sonic or any other fictional speedster) then I think as long as you actually stay motivated towards that goal, you can surely excell.

But the problem is usually that if humans don't see sustainable and increasing results towards that goal, then they tend to quit or give up. So for that reason it is usually better to set more realistic goals, because once you achieve them, it keeps you motivated for even more.

So I believe that as long as you can actually stay motivated, even if it is towards an impossible goal, then you can do amazing things.
