Topic: Trying to remember an old TV show

Posted under Off Topic

There was a show on Comedy Central a good time ago, where people would build robots of their own design. 2 or 4 people would fight in an arena at a time. There would be traps in the arena like spinning traps and a pit with a escalating panel. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

The show your thinking of is "BattleBots"

There was also a show called Robot Wars that was pretty similar to Battlebots, but I don't think it was as popular.

I LOVED this show! Some pretty interesting robots in there!

I was almost able to participate in a robot building competition. IT was Odyssey of the Mind, back when I was in 11th grade.

Challenge 1: We had to devise tools to assist an egg through a rather simple maze. The final part was figuring out how to drop the egg from a table without breaking with just some paper and tape. A simple paper cone held near the floor assured it's safety.

Challenge 2: It was a contest much like boggle, making words out of series of other words. Kinda fun.

Challenge 3: Build a "thing" with a per-determined set of ingredients. We had to bring a list of things like a fly swatter, small 3' dowel rod, roll of duct tape, and some other junk like springs and assorted parts. We had to being these things to the competition and then build it there.

The goal? Deposit wadded up paper in a box in the middle of a 6 foot circle we could not pass While all the other teams were constructing strange catapult, I thought to tape everything together, and we began just depositing paper wads into the box. Well, the other teams started whining so badly they had to amend the rules, which didn't actually prohibit such a thing. We then just made little sling with our stuff and started tossing them in anyway. We actually got disqualified, but were given bags of jolly ranchers as a consolation prize.

I really wanted to get into that robot building contest.
