Topic: [General Discussion] Questions about the {{girly}} tag...

Posted under Off Topic

Alright, so I just what to start this question off by saying that I don't present this question in a negative light, but rather, in a openminded discussion to help me understand it.

So, with the above disclaimer out of the way,

Why do gay men like art depicting other gay men in a feminine form? For example, I saw some on here the other day (when I was logged out since I have girly in my blacklist) showing a wolf wearing knee-high stocking with a lot of normally feminine features (wide-hips, etc.), and I noticed a lot of what seemed like guys favoring and upvoting it.

And please don't take this the wrong way, but as a gay individual myself, I thought I was supposed to be attracted to other guys who acted like guys, not guys who looked, dressed and spoke like a girl.

Can someone please explain this to me?

How can you be sure that the guys that favorited the images are exclusively gay and not bisexual?

I'd assume some are non the less attracted to a femine figure, just not those chest pillows and slit between ones legs. Obviously not every persons attraction will express to the same level or same way...

There is something appealing about normally bulky, muscular and otherwise masculine characters being given a girly look, clothes and/or treated like a girl, too. Especially when it involves a male/male relationship, it suddenly puts a submissive role on the character with the feminine appearance, either via their body structure or by crossdressing.

When it involves a solo character, instead of the rad or imposing look they're supposed to give as male beings when posing, they then (usually) come off as feminine and seducing instead.

Note: this is a bit of a stereotyping perspective. I am aware that not everybody has the same sexuality.

Because gender is complicated and sexuality is complicated. You're not "supposed" to be attracted to anything in particular. You must stick up for yourself, son. Never mind what anybody else done.

Actually human males are generally supposed to be attracted to human females and the opposite, if not we're not viable. That in combination with individual variation (like you bring up) causes girly males make perfect sense to me, and that's just one out of many possible reasons.

Very true, I hadn't considered that... Best of both worlds, I guess?

I didn't mean I HAD to be attracted to it... I guess I worded that wrongly. It just seems that a majority of the gay art/yiff I see is very feminine in some way.

I can assure you we don't need any more humans on this planet. We're breeding like rabbits, and depleting our natural resources faster than we can renew them. But I do see the evolutionary behavior you're talking about.

As humans, we're naturally attracted to the female pheromones and vis versa, but you can't get pheromones from a picture on a screen. Perhaps it's a psuedo-pheromone reaction in our minds? (Excuse my "trying-to-sound-fancy").

I'll never understand it, but that's fine. It's just a mild irritation from time to time when people forget to tag girly and/or gender tags in their pictures.

I'm not sure if I'd say a majority (unless you for some reason like to look at all the edge cases), at tops 20%, but probably down towards 10% could be considered girly to the general viewer.

The problem is that if something is bugging you (which I got some slight hints of) and you are exposed to it, it's common to falsely confirm your own hypothesis that it is more common than it really is. We all do it if not careful, including myself. It's so common we even got quite a bit of research put into it, i.e. confirmation bias.

I didn't mean "supposed" as in "we must do it because we must breed more humans or else we'll go extinct right now" :P, just that it's a genetically programmed trait to, commonly, express interest in the opposite sex, if it wasn't the human race would probably not exist in the first place.

Also, I get what you're saying, but pheromones are mostly a secondary thing among humans (we like visual, and nowadays often aural and intellectual, cues). We got a comparably terrible sense of smell (e.g. our vomeronasal organs aren't even functional) and the pheromones we got, and can pick up on, are only moderately interesting in courtship rituals, if at all. Besides in modern society many people are so afraid of being "dirty" that most "day-to-day"-pheromones are pretty much non-existent.

But I'm probably drifting off topic a bit (as usual).

My philosophy is: I don't mind of what's between the legs as long as the rest of the body* looks like a girl.

*Except boobs, because both flat chest and big chest are sexy.

I think some gay folk subconsciously like female bodies but also like dick so it's a win win

I think that's a pretty apt summary of my attempt to explain one cause :P
