Topic: Tag Unalias+Implication: mane_six -> friendship_is_magic

Posted under General

Unaliasing mane_six → friendship_is_magic
Implicating mane_six → friendship_is_magic
Link to implication

Reason:

Users who want to see images all six members of this group together have to search rainbow_dash_(mlp) rarity_(mlp) pinkie_pie_(mlp) applejack_(mlp) twilight_sparkle_(mlp) fluttershy_(mlp) which then prevents them from searching anything beyond that because they've hit their 6-tag search limit. It's also a pain to type.

The use of mane_six should be restricted to images containing all six members. Examples:

BTW, rainbow_dash_(mlp) rarity_(mlp) pinkie_pie_(mlp) applejack_(mlp) twilight_sparkle_(mlp) fluttershy_(mlp) returns ~2000 search results.

I feel like this will get overtagged by people who just consider one of them to be part of the mane six, and not tag it when all of them are present. The Cutie Mark Crusaders get this, though, so just add _(MLP) to it (since said tag also has the suffix), IE Mane_Six_(MLP), and I'll give it a +1.

Did Spike's inclusion as part of the mane_seven end up being ignored? Well, I guess two tags is okay to use.

As for implying all six characters, I think we should. People will learn quickly that it does so, and it shouldn't be too hard to clean it up.

Is that the only set of tags where each of the members imply the entire group they're a member of? Blanking a little on a decent set of candidates to compare it to, but Felina Feral's coming to mind from Swat Kats. That tag implies the show, like most character ones do, but it doesn't imply the enforcers, even though there're a handful of characters from it that have tags. Seems like it'd be sort of useful to make a habit of trying to always have them imply the groups when they're significant at all.

Groups should imply the members, not the other way around. You don't have the Power Rangers if all you've got is the Red Ranger, for example. They're a team, not some individual punk in a costume.

Hmm... Murky... Such a large percentage of group names in the context are also whole show names that it's hard to separate. Like I mean, power rangers is the name of that group, but also the show, so you actually would tag that, but yeah, probably not if it were called power rangers fake martial arts are magic or something. That'd make it more like tag-what-you-see-a-reference-to or something. Seems really easy to mess up usage of group names where they do make sense, but also fairly rare to have.

Yeah, Power rangers isn't a good example due to ambiguity. Also, the team members change every now and then.

These group names are uncommon but worth considering. If the group has an established name (preferable a canon one that isn't ambiguous) and a relatively fixed roster of 3+ members then it would be useful in searches for images containing every member of that group.

+1 for this.

Could also help if we just lost the arbitrary search limitation
