I'm beginning to suspect that I'm either horribly stupid or simply uneducated because I can't seem to understand how the IRC works. I've downloaded HexChat and managed to connect to the furnet.org server, but when I try to join the #e621 channel, it keeps telling me I need a "registered nick" to join the channel. What does that mean and how do I fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

(Also, it might help if it's explained to me as if I'm a small child, because I barely know how to do more than simple computer functions.)

You need to register on the network.
