Topic: Would I get in trouble for posting images without knowing the source/artist?

Posted under General

I have a bunch of images on my computer that aren't on here, but for a lot of them, I can't figure out who the artist is and I can't find the source. If I posted a bunch of those images with no source and the "unknown artist" tag but tagged "source request", is that an acceptable thing to do, or should I just not post them?

You'd be fine. We don't expect absolutely everyone to know names or sources.

Regarding DNP, most people are nice enough to tell you it's DNP by commenting on the image. If you flag it yourself when you find out, you won't get any kind of record for it.

Hmm, could risky as some may be DNP.

It will most likely sit fine under the unknown_artist tag forever. If it turns out the artist is on the DNP list, you'll probably end up getting in trouble.

While it's not a rule, you should only really be uploading stuff that you know who made, and is okay with it being uploaded here. This is the best way to avoid getting any takedowns or negative records from uploading.

Unfortunately if the artist only posts on FA it can be hard to track down an image due to the less than ideal search funtion and tagging system. They block webcaches so reverse searches don't work there.

I've posted a few images that I can't find a source for or the artist so it might be worth the small risk it's DNP and if it is just do what ratte said.

I had hoped that by posting here somebody else would know the source or artist but so far I've had no luck in that regard.

Well, it does happen sometimes. So posting and hoping for the wiki magic is not a bad idea. That's what e6 is for, finding stuff.

Another option is to post it to the forums and ask for identification. I think I remember at least one user doing that.
