I am still getting this error again even though yesterday it was working just fine. What's up with that?

Updated by Chaser

If I recall correctly, certificates get cached.
Go to to chrome://settings/clearBrowserData (Copy and paste into your address bar, e621 refuses to let me link this) and clear "Cookies and other site and plug-in data" as well as "Cached images and files" from "The beginning of time" (This may take a while).
Also note, doing this WILL require you to relog-in.
Alternatively you can try HTTPS Everywhere, But I am unsure if it does certificate validations on sites with actual certificates.

Do you happen to be using Windows XP?

Infact, yes I do. I figured that might be the problem. Got a fix? Or am I screwed?

I'm in the same boat. Windows XP. Chrome 45. ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error message. I've tried resetting everything in IE, I've tried resetting everything in Chrome, I've tried clicking the icon next to the URL and tweaking the settings there, nothing gets rid of that error message. I had to use IE *shudders* just to get here.

I'd realyl rather not bog down my computer with yet ANOTHER download/program, and I certainly would not care to have to learn how to work another browser. I'm just trying to figure out whate exactly changed from monday night to tuesday that makes it impossible to load this one single website. I haven't had an issue with ANY other site but this.

Using another browser is a standard testing method. For example, if you test in 3 browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome are a good set, to maximize difference) and find that the site doesn't work in any of them, it's unlikely that the problem is browser-centric. If you don't, well, you just don't know whether your browser is responsible or not.

I know that it works in IE, but not in Chrome. But the fact that Chrome will load every other site I ever go to (save for those that don't exist and thus yield a 404) except e621, it is logical to conclude there is some issue between Chrome and this site, and due to the nature of the error it would seem logical to conclude that e621 is using an outdated SSL certificate that is no logner supported by Chrome.

As far as I can tell e621, at least currently, uses modern encryption and technology, that in addition to that it works for me using Chrome 45 on Windows 7 makes me slightly doubtful the fault is truly an error residing in e621.

Not to say anything bad about Windows XP but that is a legacy OS and it's to be expected that not everything will work as expected or even work at all.

That said I unfortunately have little constructive help to provide except what's already been said.

Chrome relies on XP for verifying certificates, and since XP is too old to process the newer ECDSA certs it gives you that error (at least on Cloudflare sites, there are probably others though). That it stopped working within the last couple days was sort of a coincidence, or rather you would have started getting those errors eventually anyways.

Firefox on the other hand works fine to browse because it doesn't use the operating system to verify certificates; it happens to already support newer standards. Apparently newer IE on XP works as well, but I don't have an XP machine handy to test it on to verify that (no idea what is going on with that).

Since the issue lies mostly with Chrome/XP, the only workaround at the moment is to use a different browser, or upgrade your OS to one that supports newer standards. Either way Since this is actually a separate issue (and I've got a lot more to go off of now), I've forwarded this thread to our server guy. I'll let you know if I find anything new out.

Thank you very much!
In the mean time I was planing on either upgrading my OS to Vista (My laptop can also support Vista) or getting a new computer. Till then I guess I am using Firefox to come here.

Yea, I can verify that the site does work through Chrome on Vista (what I'm on now with my laptop), but not on XP (my desktop). Using IE on XP worked, as that is how I was browsing last night (at the cost of excruciating lag, the reason I stopped using IE in the first place).

So currently the only suggestion is suffer through IE or learn Firefox? Haven't heard a lot of great feedback about Firefox to be honest.

I've never cared for its interface but I've always found Firefox to be a solid browser in all other respects, and is probably one of the better choices on XP security-wise.

There's also Opera. A lot of people hate it but the ones that don't seem to love it. I've never been able to stay on it for long but it works well on older hardware and is very configurable. Might be worth a try.

It is working again! Fingers Crossed it doesn't break.. yet again..

Nooooooo! It broke again! Why can I only access it some of the time?

Updated by anonymous

IT LIVES!

Had to clear the browsing history "to the beginning of time" on Chrome to get it to kick in and take the hint, but it's up and running on XP again.

And...it's gone again. Same error as before.

Here’s the main I got for my problem,

Let me to answer to your questions:
1. Q:Is this issue specific to some websites? Which websites are you trying to open?
A:Yes, it is specific to the bank's site - TD bank. When I try to open the site to my private account info I
receive the above message. The site could be open without problems with Firefox browser but
COULD'T with IE11 and Google Chrome. I suspect that the latter take the info about root certificates
from the IE11.

• 2. Q:What exactly happens when you try to open a website in Internet Explorer?
• A: I receive the message "“ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH” or in some cases "the site
• couldn't be open, please check your connection" but I know that the connection is good.
• 3. Q: When exactly do you receive the error, “ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH”?
• A: I receive the above message when I've inserted my User Name and password and go next trying to
• get access to my private information through the banking site as I have been doing it before the
• problem.
• What would you suggest me else?

Isn't it possible as a janitor to remove the links from a post?

Only mod+ can do that.
