Topic: Favorite Weapon in a Video Game

Posted under Off Topic

Personally, my favorite one would have to be Reyn's Drivers/Gunlances
Why? Well, the idea was just so new to me, and so awesome. You could shield attacks, stab people AND shoot people? Sign me up. Also, Reyn had one of my favorite designs, behind Fiora and Shulk, of course.
What's your favorite weapon you've come across?

Updated by kamimatsu

Well this can also include real weapons and fantasy stuff. Maybe worth a topic.

A three-way tie between the Lancer Assault Rifle from Gears of War, the BFG 9000 from DOOM, and the spread shot from Contra.

Fatebringer (Destiny)- headshots cause explosions and rapid reload, fires explosive rounds, arc damage. Imago Loop can get nearly the same perks minus arc damage, but nothing has ever matched Fatebringer

Icebreaker (Destiny)- regenerates ammo (holds 6 shots), targets explode when killed, second-highest impact sniper in vanilla, after The Supremacy. It was never updated to current damage levels, sadly.

Spartan Laser (Halo)- a niche weapon that was really only good at killing vehicles, but it did it so well I can't help but love it.

SWORDSPLOSION!!! (Borderlands 2)- its a gun that shoots swords that explode into more exploding swords. What more is there to say?

M-14 variants (MW2, BF3, BF4)- I've always been a sucker for semi-auto rifles, especially the Mk14 EBR. I loved it in MW2, and used it a lot in Battlefield 3 and 4.

L85A2 (BF3)- I specify Battlefield 3 because in that game it had virtually no recoil. It just felt great to use.

Dawnbreaker (Skyrim)- while the game's wonky levelling and OP craft system meant this early Daedric weapon would be completely irrelevant soon enough, its still one of the coolest looking and fun to use swords in the game

Jokes aside, it'd be too hard to pick. I'm not the type to ever think "wow, that's such a cool weapon!" As I posted in the last thread like this, the Headcutter comes to recent mind. It plays a rock chord, the enemy's head explodes into blood and glitter a few seconds later, and anyone nearby the explosions' heads explode. Weaponized rock is a powerful motherfucker

Tough question I can't choose which one.

I really liked the nail gun from quake, duel reciprocating barrels plus I love quake for the n64. Although that gun makes me feel kinda bad because when I was little a nerf gun came out that looked a lot like the nail gun and I got it for christmas but I was to small and weak to shoot it so I quickly lost interest and we took it back and got something else.

The assault rifle from quake 4 was pretty useful semi auto fire with a scope for longer ranges, full auto for close quarters, and it was one of the few games where having a flash light on the gun was useful.

blaze fire saber from final fantasy XIII although I suppose you'd need to be as cool as lighting to use it effectively.

I liked the air rifle in metro 2033 redux, I liked you had to pump it as well as reload the rifle it was fun and different. Although rifles like that are much harder to pump in real life.

kar 98 from wolfenstein 2009 I loved shooting that one the sound effects for it sounded cool and I like bolt action rifles.

The baseball bat was fun in manhunt that was like an instant classic of the game.

I've surprised myself with both of these threads and no knives I usually talk about knives all the time.

Gonna take this opportunity to plug the fusion pistol again.

I love using rockets and such in video games too— anything with slow-moving projectiles that do a lot of damage. I'm a rocket man

Final Fantasy's Excalipoor) :

this weapon, possessing a ridiculous amount of stat increases usually to such point where auto-equip prioritizes it over everything else... deals just 1 damage. Sought after by my favorite character Gilgamesh, and in FF5 it has two unintentional effects that circumvents the 1 damage it deals, the first being it never misses, countering a dangerous enemy's high evasion rate; and abilities that only count attack power are ignored in the 1 damage script, meaning both Throw and Goblin Punch deals substantial amounts of damage.

Final Fantasy's Masamune) and Murasama) (both because of the legend):

These weapons are both a favorite because of the Japanese legend that goes as: Murasama Sengo challenged his master (not related) Masamune to see who can make the finer sword. They toiled to make the finest blade, and when each one was completed they had decided to test the results.

The test involved suspending their blades into a flowing creek, edges toward the current. Murasama's blade, the Juuchi Yosamu, cut through everything that passed by: the leaves, the water, the fish, the very air that breezed by. Masamune's blade, the Yawarakai-Te, cut only the leaves. The fish swam up to it, unharmed, and the air only hissed against the sword.

Murasama scoffed and mocked his master, showing pride in his superior blade, before Masamune lifted the blade and dried it off, returning it to its sheath. While Murasama was pronouncing his blade as the better of the two, a monk, who had been watching the ordeal, walked over to explain what he had seen. "The first of the swords was by all accounts a fine sword, however it is a blood thirsty, evil blade, as it does not discriminate as to who or what it will cut. It may just as well be cutting down butterflies as severing heads. The second was by far the finer of the two, as it does not needlessly cut that which is innocent and undeserving".

I always show reverence to these blades, along with the rest in a rare collector (or, Gilgamesh) run, sometimes having both equipped on one character.

World of Warcraft's Training Sword :

this is a silly and rare (when it came to my guild, really rare) weapon in the game. It's model is that of a bokutō, the only of its kind. As such, it is the perfect transmog weapon for my silly surv hunter set (say that five times fast), with my mail dress bottom, bright blue shoulders, and etc. that I'd have to fetch a screenshot to show off. My Tinman guild were intrigued that I had such a weapon, they didn't even know of it because of how low of a drop rate it has in Horde starting zones.

World of Warcraft's Arcanite Steam-Pistol :

this is another one that I'd have to take a screenshot of, but this is a transmog that I really like because it looks really good with the male goblin's default wielding stance with guns and crossbows. And, while it is not absurdly rare, I'd really like to argue that since it never drops from TK when I'm raiding with said guild.

I've always been more of a lever action guy myself. Mostly for the John Wayne spincock. If I ever set aside the time and money, I want to get a Rossi Ranch Hand. I'm actually talking with my dad on getting one for my mom for Christmas- she owns a bunch of chickens, and has had problems with predators killing them. My dad doesn't trust semi-autos (and always leaves them unloaded when she needs them) or handguns (we think he pawned off my mom's service revolver from her time as a PO after my brother and I found it when we were younger, even though we're both firearms trained and cleaned it), and the shotgun is too heavy and unwieldy for her. She also loved The Rifleman, so we think she'd like it.

I have a somewhat transient mind, so I'll just say what I like right now.
The Crescent Moon Sword is my favorite weapon right now. It's beautiful, and almost romantic. The shape of the blade is that of the crescent moon, lunar magic pulsing along it's silver visage. I've always liked blades that are reminiscent of shotels, or more historically, Khopeshs, and this one is legendary, but strangely obscure in its origins. It is a weapon whose power derives from Moonlight, and when that power is called on, it envelopes the blade in blinding celestial light that bathes all those near in lunar hues.

It's not even a particularly effective weapon, but I like it.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention this thing

It's not a harpoon but it's kinda close.

Does all the weapons from Ratchet & Clank count? Obvious one is the Morph-o-ray, turn your enemies into actual chickens. Suck Cannon, the Walloper, and Glove of Doom are favorites.

Here , a joke comic that has your favorite weapon. And it definitely has inflation, so viewer discretion is advised.

The Keyblade from the Kingdom Hearts series.

Which one? There are several...

Joking aside, just having the ability to summon up a weapon, even if it is just one, would make it my favorite.

While it's true there are a lot of Keyblades, most are actually just Keychains. If you can get the 'chain for a Keyblade, you can turn any other keyblade into it.

I only somehow just realized you were calling Reyn's weapons gunlances. Why? They never shoot, only stab, smash, and block. The game is Xenoblade Chronicles, not Monster Hunter. If you're basing it off of what the Wiki says, don't. Wikis can be edited by anybody and the people behind the Xenoblade Wiki are apparently all Monster Hunter nerds who demand that it share a name despite having nothing to do with guns, and not even looking like the Monster Hunter Gunlance.

The "Magazine" that's on the Scrap Driver looks like it was slapped on by Shulk to act as a brace for when Reyn is using it as a shield: By holding the stick in the center and placing the elbow against the magazine, he would ensure that the driver could not be knocked to the side. You gotta remember this thing was made from junk that Shulk dug up to craft weapons for himself and Reyn, and a spent Magazine was probably the best elbow brace he could find.

One art shoots: Sword Drive. Other than that, yeah, I call them Drivers. I thought Gunlance is what is was known as for equip, such as Sharla using Ether Rifles, and Dunban swords. Also, thanks for the heads up.

Edit: Sword Drive doesn't actually say that it shoots. I only think that it shoots because of its animation.

Shuriken Grenades from Lost Planet 2. Just throw and watch it saw through enemies, giant mecha, bounce of walls and then explode, with never ending range, you could snipe with it. To bad the game was lame.

The portal gun from portal 1/2.
It might not seem like a weapon but when used properly it can do some deadly stuff.

What about the Combination Blade of Light and the Combination Blade of Darkness, wielded by Sora and Roxas Riku respectively for their reality breaks during the Dream World That Never Was?

Edited to change Roxas out for Riku, whoops

Don't you mean Sora and Riku?

And yes, that blade is amazing. So is the "kai-blade" from Birth By Sleep.
