Topic: Scam site Payposter stole my artwork and probably yours too

Posted under General

Courtesy of DigitalDomain123 (journal here) I've been made aware of a fraud site stealing artists' work and selling them as posters.

EDIT: DigitalDomain removed the journal due to concern he would only be giving the site more traffic.

[REDACTED by Husky]

While my name does not appear to exclusively return my artwork, my artwork has been stolen too. I presume they have bots crawling Inkbunny, e621, and other art-relevant sites, swiping raw images of a sufficiently high resolution, and copying over any metadata their bot catches. This is why some images have relevant tags listed while others have random text from the pages they found the images on.

Individual artists reporting the violation (i.e. through the site itself) is likely to be ineffective and may only serve to expose personal information to the scam artists.

The proper way to combat this site is through awareness to take out their customer base.

Yup, they stealing from here

As is mine. Should I bring up a journal about this on FA?

Updated by anonymous

Cheeky little bastards. I can't even look up their webhost. They got it protected. I was going to bring this up to their webhost, but I can't...

Updated by anonymous

First thing I saw when opening that link is nude clearly underage kids.

The journal you linked is already removed for some reason.

I'm almost certain that majority of internet users would never put their credit card information to site like that. However if someone thinks that the site is phishing information this can be reported to google, which then essentially paints browser in red when user wants to access the site. Another way to improve the situation is to report the site not be trustworthy on services like Avast plugin, Norton safe web and WOT as those plugins then prevent users from going to those sites by default.

Also it does help that first google search brings up tons of sites saying it's scam.

Updated by anonymous

Given the fact that it would take an absolutely brainless dicksmurf of a person to fork over money to a site as obviously sketchy as this for images that are readily available for free via a simple reverse image search, I have to wonder if the actual purpose of the whole thing isn't just to bait people into feeding them personal info via DMCA claims.

right click view pic... who needs to enter credit card info on the internet for pics?

that said, this site is still a big problem that needs to be dealt with obviously.

edit: actually, scratch that. once on the page with a pic you can left click said pic to open the full size in another tab.

This is a stolen art merchandise site; you can't right-click and view to get a real life poster, mug, etc.

While their web host appears to be hidden, Whois reports their domain registrar as InternetBS.net. I'm not sure how to approach this tactfully. They've stolen clean artwork of mine I will readily admit to a legal authority that I drew, but the adult content of mine on there should be kept under the rug yet I would still like it removed.

Refuge in audacity, etc.

EDIT: I've given a review through Web of Trust.

I mean, that's assuming that paying these yutzes will actually get you anything at all.

Mario's solution is probably the best one. There's pretty much no guarantee you'll get any further with their webhost than you will with them directly. You'd probably end up having to submit the same bevy of personal information for a DMCA claim.

no but, and note my edit, you CAN freely view the full size version of these pics for free.

You're going to take a picture of a furry's massive cock to a local store and have it printed by an attendant?

I probably wouldn't, no, but the clean art would probably elicit no reaction from an attendant whatsoever.

On that line of thought, who the hell would buy a mug with a massive cock emblazoned on the side?

The same kind of people who buy actual massive cocks to stuff up their butts?

why not try making a poster out of a gif? that's also from here.

Yep, found some of my stuff on there too. Most of it's from DA and it looks like this has been going on for quite a while. Unfortunately the only way they'll remove content is by DMCA, which is a nightmare. Wonderful.

I guess? I mean, it's one thing to have a dildo that you stow under your bed and use in private, it's another to plaster a huge cock on your drinkware.

There's some shit on this site that comes awfully damn close to being actual cheese-pizza. Wonder if the relevant authorities would be interested? Fuck knows in some places all it needs to be is "awfully damn close" in order to get the law's attention.

We could try sending complaints to InternetBS ([email protected]), their domain registrar, whose Terms of Service state:

14. REPRESENTATIONS & WARRANTIES

a. Against Infringement. You represent and warrant to us that you hold the necessary rights to use, or permit to use, any item used through our Services, and that such use will not in any way:

(i) violate or potentially violate any right of any third party, including, without limitation, infringement or misappropriation of any copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, or other proprietary right;

This may not require a formal DMCA notice / admittance we draw raunchy furry porn.

oh fuck no! i just came across a irl pic (not NSFW thankfully) of someones kid on that site.

would [REDACTED by Husky] being on that type of website be illegal? NSFW or not

Updated by anonymous

Since they have digital kids (and real kids) in there, it should be easy to take down, just bring it up in a place where people do not like kids.

Updated by anonymous

Really? Actual real-life child porn? Good thing I have ads blocked. As an occasional cub artist myself that is fucking disgusting.

I've reported them to their domain registrar ([email protected]). I didn't mention the CP because I have Adblock so I didn't see it.

But I'm absolutely sure they will, and that will be that, especially if more reports are made so they can't shove it under the carpet.

I think it depends on jurisdiction.

That said, they really aren't very choosy about what images they scrape, are they? Probably being done by some kind of bot/crawler.

IRL child porn? I'd make a Jared Fogle joke but those dumb motherfuckers running that site never bothered to put their site on the deep web if they're going to host IRL child porn?

I just finished my homework assignment on illegal websites for my MIS class, and I can say that if I were to run an illegal website (This is hypothetical btw) I wouldn't make it obvious and draw in a shit ton of attention.

ok, we've got them on something major. i'm fairly certain that hosting pics of nude irl children on ANY site that also hosts pornographic material qualifies as child pornography and not the fictional kind that hurts no one.

won't link to it but "kid penis" page 4, 3rd row, middle pic and theres lots more. teen, kid, toddlers, all nude. though i didn't (not sure i want to) see any expliciting in the act.

wait... same search, page 8, bottom row, middle pic, maybe.

"This is actually copyrighted material, and guess who owns the IP?":[REDACTED by Husky]
Microsoft owns the MechWarrior IP.

You want to see these people go down? Feed them to Piranha Games/Microsoft.

EDIT: Sent an email to Piranha Games' "General Inquiries" email. Feel free to do the same. Emails here

What the hell was that site, and why are they doing this? Is there nothing we can do to stop this from happening? Can we not get some kind of DMCA claim?

They have a DMCA thing but it requires that you send them a fair chunk of personal info. Probably a bad bet. Better to pressure their webhost, Internet.bs, because apparently Internet.bs will fold like a bad poker hand if you mention the words "copyright claim". Also, feel free to look for copyrighted IP in their galleries and alert the IP holders. Let corporate legal do the fighting.

NOTE: -- STOP searching that website and making reports on your artwork when you find it. It's very likely a phishing website. It may be using the scam to snatch up personal information and use it -- Don't hold me to this but it's quite possible given the terrible layout of the site.
If you have visited it, run a virus scan just in case.

Ha, called it.

Rule of thumb: Never file reports directly to people who are stealing your art. They will not give a shit and will probably use the communication to exploit you further (in this case, through malware.)

Fortunately, I block all ads and all scripts by default. I'll scan anyway.

A Change.org petition? Well that's fairly worthless.

What's much more effective is reporting them to authorities for child pornography, which I've done.

I hope to see some good chaos tomorrow.

clearing cache now and what browser history? the only history i keep is the recently closed tabs/windows. :P

Got a response from Piranha Games. They're passing it up the chain (presumably to their legal department or possibly to Microsoft's legal department). If for some reason the CP doesn't take this site down, corporate legal probably will.

As long as nothing was downloaded I doubt the suits will care.

Update: The PayPoster domain has been suspended.

Before the CP was discovered I had contacted PayPoster's domain registrar (InternetBS) about their art theft. An abuse team member gave a personal and very relevant reply, indicating to me they were taking this seriously.

They generously explained that there are consequences to taking action themselves that they didn't want to risk if I wasn't able to resolve the issue through the web host (which PayPoster tried to hide but InternetBS provided for me: Loco Digital Hosting) or law enforcement.

As soon as CP became a known factor, InternetBS immediately terminated the domain. While I had already reported PayPoster through CyberTip, I'm hoping InternetBS are proactively involving law enforcement since revoking the domain may otherwise impede the investigation.

well, that's good news. on the irl CP i spotted, there was no sexual acts (aside from that 1 pic but those might've been teens) but nudes do count. especially if those in the pics are clearly early teens or younger.

was actually some other fucked up images on there (circumcision related) but irl CP on its own is pretty much a death sentence for a website, right?

one less site to case trouble for artists at least. and i only came out with 1 piece of malware iirc (probably thanks in part to these plugins i use to block all sorts of crap. :)). all that did was just redirect links to the incorrect page though so nothing major. hope the rest of you dodged that stuff too.

looked for my name in there, didn't found my stuff (two vectors, one color edit)... not that I bothered going past page 3 anyway. I mostly found some things that I faved and post #737445 (which is in my faves)

On the Internet, it's generally unknown in every way, but we have to use something. Maybe be a little more polite in informing someone the mandatory gamble was a loss. Here's another novel idea. Actually include the correct one.
