Topic: Usage of Notes for Grammar/Spelling Corrections

Posted under General

Today I found a user who has deleted a whole bunch of notes because they claim that "translation boxes aren't for grammar corrections".

After reading up on Help:Notes, I found nothing mentioning whether or not they should be used for such.

Just curious to see what the ruling is on this.

I've seen them used for that for years, I don't see why that would ever be a reason to get rid of them.

i'm pretty sure "notes" aren't used exclusively for translations.

If it's the same user I'm thinking of, then yeah, those are better off deleted. We're not grading essays here, no need to correct every single comma splice, etc.

tbh I think user who do that in moderation are pretty handy. ╹‿╹)
Pretty use to seeing peeps note my stuff my submits since I'm dyslexic and if it wasn't for them pointing it out I would have never noticed no matter how many times I re-read it

Hmm. Regarding the colors on the note history screen, what do all of them mean? That's not mentioned on the help page either.

The colors are random and have no meaning, they're just a visual aid to help make the different notes more distinct.

The colors are randomly generated based on the post number. They were just added to make it easier to quickly tell apart the edits of different posts (it makes more sense on the notes index).

Thank you all for the input. If anyone's curious, this is the user I was referring to.

Spelling and grammar corrections don't seem to me like an appropriate use of notes. It's pedantic, pretentious and pointless.

Yet it's allowed and a valid use of them.

This is pretty much what I was looking for. Thank you.
