I have uploads that have been sitting in queue for longer than a week waiting for approval, and it used to be that I would get approval in 48 hours at the longest.

It's not that there's a shortage... It's just that they're doing other more important things. Trust me, I've had pictures waiting to be approved for weeks before. You're not the only one.

Thats not an admin issue as much as a janitor issue. The site is run mainly by volunteers so yes this means that directly this is indeed a shortage of staff issue.
Theres so many new uploads a staff of people who sre not being paid for this cannot always be expected to be on here. They have personal lives after all :p

There is currently 62 pages of pending images, along with flagged images which sometimes have to be deeply analysed.
Janitors can only approve so much in one day before having to use eyebleech drops and sleep the pain and horrors away.
Joking aside, there really is a lot of images to check, sometimes we have to discuss whether it should be kept due to stuff like right at the edge of minimum quality standards, potential pay content, artificial upscaling, and what not. We try to approve stuff in a timely manner, but some stuff gets burried when everyone is asleep. It'll be approved eventually.

I don't envy the job of approvers. You know that nice blacklist thing that everyone likes? Well, you can't avoid what you don't like, you gotta analyse that shitty picture, because by god, it too has a right to be here, apparently. Unless it doesn't. Aren't you glad we have janitors and admins?
Just remember, someone had to approve the cheesegrater photo, thanks guys, you work a thankless job.

This is a contradiction. You thanked them for working a thankless job.
Also, that is why I thank them every time I can.

There was this one time a dude got mad because he got banned so he made a new account and uploaded dozens of real life gore pics. I happened to be the first admin to see it so I had to go to each post and delete them. Also to IP ban that dude :V

As someone who is really desensitised to this sort of thing (almost nothing makes me squeamish anymore) I really should apply for a janitor position again next time it rolls around.

Did you also report it to the authorities?
