Topic: Procrastination And how do you fight it?

Posted under General

At what feels like all times I have a laundry list of things I wanna get to in a day but each time I try to focus I end up getting completely derailed spongebob style from whatever I'm working on in the span of about an hour.

Anyone got any good tips for staying on track?

Spend an hour working, then 15 minutes doing your own thing. Rinse and repeat until everything is done. Audible alarms can help.

Don't get overwhelmed. Focus on doing a small number of tasks at a time and do them as efficiently as possible.

Set realistic goals and utilize a schedule. If you know that you might doze off track, schedule a break within your work

Don't go on this site. There is no reason for porn if you haven't finished your chores.
It's literally that simple. Hell if you lack control just add sites to your blocked list on whatever browser you are using.

Thanks a ton guys ╹‿╹)
Thanks to these comments and the really helpful PM I got from making this Thread
I was actually focused long enough to actually make a sizable dent in that list I brought up. And at the risk of some not so subtle self promotion, I got my latest doodle done in a timely fashion for one ◠‿◠)

I don't.

I just let everything compound over until it's too late for me to handle it and lose some sanity points along the way. That's kind of what happens if you don't value anything.

I tend to do that too. I have a bit of a block about getting things done that is why I avoid anything that remotely smells like a deadline.

a tip i use to get things done sooner is to do all the hard stuff first so by the end of the day you'll have that feeling of relaxation and peace. knowing you dont have to do anything and can just kick back

If it's something I'm dreading I usually wait until just before I'm mentally ready, then instead of whatever I was going to do, do that instead. This method has prevented me from sitting on things endlessly. It works great for exercise and things that are probably dangerous (think jumping out of a plane, but not that because I've never done that).

Also coffee and not having ADHD. Some day I'll try the latter but the coffee works pretty well.

Edit: It also might help to set semi-rigid times and dates just for yourself (Like a mini schedule mixed with notes). Avoid things like "do X by noon Wednesday", instead use "Tuesday: X, Y, then Z". If you set it as a deadline your brain might tend to treat it as if you don't have to deal with it until it's too late.

Something like this has worked pretty well for me (even for day-to-day stuff):

  • Tuesday
    • X
    • Y
    • Z
  • Wednesday
    • Anything not done Tuesday
    • A
    • B if I have time
  • etc.

It works because battling procrastination partly requires you to remember what it was that you needed to get done in the first place. Include even easy stuff like "change address on PayPal account". This gives you something visual that you can just cross off when you are finished. You can get a lot more done like this.

I set timers. I set two types of timers: one for the boring thing I intend to do, and one for the free time I have. I did 30 minutes of studying (I suck at studying), I set 3 hours of whatever else. Rinse and repeat until the day is done.

But I also do mental preparation and physical limitations (I sleep next to my notepad & study material, away from my addictions).
