I have seen quite a few accounts with "privileged" under their usernames.

What does that exactly mean and or do, and can anyone gain this 'rank'?

You don't necessarily have to be a prodigious uploader to get priv; you can get it from being an active tagger, participating in forum discussions about site policies, and just generally being a helpful user. The give it to people who have shown they have the site's interests in mind and put in the time to help out wherever they can, not just with uploading new art.

I don't actually match many of those criteria. I still wonder how I even got privileged.

I'm thankful I'll never be Priv or admin because I'm a complete and utter asshole.

You've got quite a few tag edits to your name, really, so that's probably why. There was a period where upgraded accounts were being given out without the users really earning it, but that should no longer be the case. I didn't really think (as lead admin at the time) that those users should be demoted again though, as I saw it as a mistake on the site's part, and so just let those particular users benefit from the site's mistake.

I think I asked for mine because of the hourly tag limits of a normal member

I had a time when I was overly active in this site and I got noticed. So it happens, you just have to be a good member I guess xD

I remember when I was privileged, those days were long ago, I wish I would have cherished them more.

I just got a positive record from Aurali (and a neutral by the same person, but well, that was for being a loudmouth)

I asked for priv because I hit the search term limitation quite often and because of the hourly tag limit while cleaning up the comic tag.
Two weeks later I started to run into the 8 search term limit more often...

And then I asked for mod because approvals and tickets kept lagging behind forever.
They don't do that anymore.

I was never privileged :(

And yes, rank is simply providing more tools to be more useful on the site. If you are being useful, you are given those tools. If you are using those tools to make things worse and more troublesome, giving others more work with said tools, you are handled like any other user and tools can be taken away and if severity is big, even get banned.

yeah being privileged is kind of like a "thank you" from the admins for helping the site and being active member. ive been here roughly 2 year and just now trying to rank up to privileged.

Might want to boost up on tag edits then, since that's the most easiest way to gain "contribution points".
