Topic: So I found a way to view deleted posts...

Posted under General

While I was dicking around in the page source of a deleted post, I found a link that should look like this: "https://e621.net/comment/atom/ (post id)". As the link suggests, it showed me all the comments linked to the post in a new tab. However, within the details of the comment, I found the image source (y'know those "static1.e621.net" pages that show up when you open an e621 image in a new tab? Yeah that one).

Here's the thing: it shows only the THUMBNAIL of the pic, not the whole thing. There also needs to be at least 1 comment for it to work. Here's an example: https://e621.net/post/show/1137047/

As you can see, the post is deleted. Now if you go to the page source, you will find this link: https://static1.e621.net/data/preview/4c/e5/4ce53d1e4e18b12d0e2d562d31e5380d.jpg

idk what to do with this info so i'll just throw it out there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you wanna check if the thumbnail is legit, go to the furaffinity source (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22500368/)

(my first forum post so yay)

you probably should have brought this up to admins instead of posting it to forums because im fairly sure that non-staff users are not meant to see them in any way

And how do you suppose a lot of the information GETS to the Admins and Janitors? :P

i believe that this is better on a forum, because relevant information can be brought up as well.

For instance, did you know you could also revert tags, and even edit them, despite a post being deleted? I thought that this was a glitch, but now it is more like an intentional design flaw with search and mode functions. People don't remove sources that have paid content, too, and all sources work on deleted posts. (Both of those should probably be worked on)

In the future, permission bypass is treated as a security issue. Security issues should be reported to [email protected] instead of posted anywhere.

We're not terribly concerned about the really small thumbnail images, but I am fixing this anyways, because it should not contain links to deleted images at all.

Firstly, its nothing new, i found this like few years ago and been using it ever since. So thanks for for fucking up this one too.

Secondly, it is somewhat useless now. because of recent changes. Few months ago, there was change that would block deleted images from being viewed through source links. Before that, you could look at images that were deleted few years ago. Now it is 404 error. After the post is deleted, there is "short" timeframe when you can view deleted posts. After that, 404. This doesn't work with flash/webm.

Thirdly, this work if:
1. post is image and does contain thumbnail (doesn't work with flash/webm because of the generic thumbnail)
2. needs atlest one comment (even hidden one)

If these two condition apply:
1. find deleted post (preferably that got deleted not that long ago)
2. rightclick on page > show html
3. click on "https://e621.net/comment/atom/*" (number of the post)
4. click on "https://static1.e621.net/data/preview/*/*/*.jpg"
5. remove the "preview/" from link to "https://static1.e621.net/data/*/*/*.jpg"
6. 403? try change the type from .jpg to .png / .gif

Post that have been deleted long won't show, except for thumbnail. However, if you cange the "preview" to "deleted", you'll get 403 Forbidden. You can also see hidden comments too. So, if someone post links to paid content, hiding it won't help.

Not to mention it's easier to discuss the details here than it is in blips or pms.

Sorry, I didn't know how to use e621 fully as I mostly lurk

Will try to report it properly!

Found it like 2011-2013 I guess? Don't remeber now. It was right after they removed (fixed) the reverse search on deleted posts.

Edit: Think about it this way. You, unlike me, did a right thing. It could have been used to harm this site. I never told about it to anyone and used it exclusively to download deleted posts.
