Topic: What's your favorite font?

Posted under General

Weird question I know but, Just found the really cool one called
'Riffic Free' which perfectly encapsulates that cartoony feel I've been trying to go with my art ◠‿◠)

Thinking about it more got me thinking if other peeps had a favorite font they like to use. ╹‿╹)
So what's your favorite font if you got to choice?

(I feel like Comic Sans, Papyrus and Wingdings Gaster
might be a user favorite like boxer-Briefs T‿T)
But who knows, Maybe you doods will prove me wrong ◠‿╹)

Courier. I don't know why, but it may have something to do with the fact that I use Notepad++ a lot.

I believe the word you're looking for is 'encapsulates'.

..Unless your art's been fucking itself.

gamefaqs, why do you have thumbnails for screenshots that can't be viewed?

that aside, would anyone happen to know the font used in this games title screen? as well as the in-game text font.

04b03 has been my favorite font for a near 10 years now, since the style is very minimalist. Otherwise I stick with Courier New or use Verdana for a slicker looking font if I need it

I originally saw his name in writing, and for the longest time I thought he was Kim Jong the Second.

Anyway, I usually stick to Times New Roman.

Streamster. Its got that awful neon heartache style

For print:
Nofret
Antique Olive
Bookman Old Style

For screens:
I usually fall back to Verdana or Lucida Sans. The sans-serif fonts that have come out of google are pretty good.

For a good monospaced sans-serif I suggest Source Code Pro which has strong disambiguation between glyphs.

If you're referring to Undertale, the only info I could find was within a "readme" document contained within the zip folder for the Undertale demo.

It reads:
FONTS --

-- Main font - 8Bitoperator by Jayvee D. Enaguas (Grand Chaos) --
-- Damage font - Hachicro by FluckyFrog --
-- Various bitmap fonts by auntie pixelante --
-- Special thanks to Flashygoodness for the keyboard code. --

  • Fantasque Sans mono for monospaced/terminal usage
  • Fantasque Sans (not mono) in general.
  • Sansation if I have a moderate amount of text and want something more futuristic than Fantasque Sans
  • Monoid if it should be more computery than Sansation
  • Overpass for signage/icons
  • Milonga if it needs to look archaic
  • Something from the M+ family for captions or overlays (Best 'very light' font I've seen.). Maybe for background text that you are not actually expected to read.
  • Lobster if it should look pretentiously spiffy
  • Fontin if it should look sophisticated without being pretentious
  • You should probably pick up some kind of SmallCaps font at some point, I guess. Good for particular kinds of titles. Delicious SmallCaps or Fontin SmallCaps is good.
  • Dosis if it should be a bit cutesy and childish.
  • Infini for diagrams / drafting. Also, Brill Italic. Rule of thumb here is it should be legible very small.
  • Bunches of different pixel fonts for pixel art or other things where every pixel matters:
    • V5Prophit
    • SF Pixelate , Smoothansi, Crisp
    • Silkscreen, Drift, MintsMild, Lime, Cure, Clean, Iris
    • Fixedsys excelsior
    • Ohsnap
    • 5thElement when it needs to be ****really**** small
  • Xolonium or Orbitron for announcements.

Serif fonts? Dunno, don't like them, even for print.

When possible I do my own lettering though. Humbler but much more educational.

Most of these can be found on FontLibrary with visual examples. Most of them are under OFL license.

Will say, that is an awesome font.

Been working on building my own, based off of Blackletter scripts but with less lines. I'm also integrating ligatures and old English letters into it.

yep, just wish i new the name of it.

the only things i can finde that are even related to the games fonts are this and a download on romhacking.net.

the former, as you can see, is just a sprite sheet unfortunately. and the latter, irrc, is just some resources for romhacking and not anything you could install for pc use.

if anyone wants to see if they can find these elusive fonts, check the sprite sheet link (you'll need to right click > view image and zoom in some for a good view) to see what they look like.

edit: looking through this site and so far no match on the title screen (iand that one looks like it'd be easy to spot with how it looks) or the in-game small font.

did find one called Stitch Warrior demo which looks nice.

That's just it, in those older games, the game devs often just handmade their own fonts in spritesheets, because there was no way to use an actual text file like on PC. Sure, sometimes they would copy pixel by pixel an existing font, but it's so much more fun to stylize your own font.
