Topic: Is Inkbunny mostly 'cub' oriented or is it just me?

Well… I think we can agree that most of Inkbunny's users - even if they also like other things - are fans of small, cute characters; and often of horrifying-yet-fictional things being done by/to them. The most-popular content reflects that. Part of its membership is only active on the site, and so it may be of value to some artists. But if there's not much overlap with the work you want to do, it's probably not going to provide much business. (And that's OK.)

Of course, audiences can change. I'm reminded of the time a young up-and-coming furry art site took on a bunch of gay porn artists who got thrown off y!Gallery and SheezyArt. They outlasted both, going on to absorb significant portions of their memberships, plus several other sites, ultimately leading to them supporting - to some extent - a few artists whose output was not gay, or even particularly pornographic.

To be honest, I don't see Inkbunny going all the way down that path… in part because waiting for sites to fold has never been a rewarding pastime, but also because we don't allow things many fans like (such as human erotica, and photography). On the plus side, that makes it cheaper and more pleasant to run; a major factor in why it's still around.

It's a bit off-topic, but I'm curious as to how you think your ideal site would work. My initial thought was something like ArtSpots, but I hear it lacked traffic, and you might not have got much business there, either. Many seemed to use it as a clean-dump, to give friends, family and employers something to look at - the average furry fan could get all that and more at FA, and eventually the owner shut it down. I've considered running a similar site on Inkbunny's code, but I fear the traffic might disappoint those who use it.

I've grown used to dickbrained furtards. I don't like it, but I'm used to it. Likewise, I am used to my work going basically nowhere because it doesn't tickle someone's pickle, though I don't like it. My ideal site wouldn't work because the majority of furries, regardless of what they like to say, are here for porn. I am one of the few who is not, and have no intention to make serious adult content. I am actually repulsed by it.

I would be more willing to use places like FurryNetwork if it didn't just reinforce the popularity of the same regurgitated 5-10 people everyone and their dog knows about. Again, if I'm going to post my work, I would rather it be worth my time.

Going back to the beginning of the thread, I'm actually kind of surprised SoFurry still allows cubs, considering I remember them dumping the YiffStar name and YiffChat section of the site in a bid to appear less... Stereotypically furry. Man, YS was like 10 years ago.

See now I've always thought that if there is going to be a "featured" section, it should primarily serve to highlight artists that people don't know about, rather than popular art.

At the same time though, there are problems with that The first being that often an artist might be less popular because of the content they draw rather than the quality... Meaning such a feature area might be disproportionately filled with the most generally offputting fetishes. Though that could be solved somewhat with a blacklist...

Maybe this is dumb but it might be interesting if the featured section would select from a user-created pool of what they felt was their best artwork, and each artist could only appear in the featured section a limited amount per month, weighted somewhat by popularity.

So by those rules you would still see popular artists, but their representation would be limited, and less popular artists would have the option to represent the best of their work, generally keeping the quality higher than it would be if it were just "new" artwork from the artist.., And it could potentially inspire some people to create higher-than-usual-quality showcase pictures, which is something I'd think would be good to encourage. Also gives people the option to try to specifically attract the sort of audience they want by selecting art of certain subjects.

Bah. I'm rambling at this point, and I'm rather off topic anyway. I just wanted to come up with something better than the common "popular" feeds.
