Topic: e621 hard to find on google

Posted under General

i normally just type in e621 into google to find the website.
But i have been having more and more problems finding it.
i know you can just type in e621.net but i think its very strange that its so hard to find.
Right before i went onto the website today i went through 10 pages with out finding the website.
that its moving further up the result list has been happening for a few weeks now.

does any one of you know why this is suddenly happening?

It's not happening for me. e621.net is the top result on google for me, across browsers (only logged in on Chrome). That makes me think it might be something related to results personalization.

do you have safe search on or something? this site is the first result i get when i google e621

One thing to keep in mind is that google these days tries to personalize your search results, so with this for example, for you personally you must be looking for this site, but for someone who doesn't even know what furry is, they might be trying to search what does it mean when package of cold cuts says it doesn't include e621 additive.

So if you are sharing computer with someone or are using things to block what google can know about you, then it might prioritize the later one for you. Also there are other things taken into account like your geolocigal location.

For example for me, e621.net is first and wikifur article third. If I go incognito mode, wikifur article is completely dropped to third page.

for me, typing in e621 shows e621.net, wikifur, then Food-Info.net : Monosodiumglutamate - E621 for some reason. o_O followed by the e621 facebook page.

How dare they!

No, e621 was named after the flavor enhancer.

This is one of the major reasons I dislike Google: The personalized search results, though perhaps nice to some extent in some ways, come with a ton of problems.

This is one of them - Google can ignore well-known sites if it decides, for whatever reason, that you are not interested in them.

Another reason, apparent from this topic: "It's not doing it for me". The fact that people get wildly different results from each other makes it a pain to come to resolutions, and also, because people don't understand the extent to which this is happening, it leads people to say things like "you could find information disproving ______ through 10 seconds on Gooogle!".

Sure, maybe you can, but since Google crafts an echo chamber, the people who would most need new information to disturb their viewpoint are never presented with it.

Bah!

I would still argue that personalized searching is overall really good thing, it never hides any information from me, but the ones I was meaning to search to begin with are closer to start of the list.

Also majority of internet users are super dum, which will never use googles more advanced searching features to begin with, so they can't do this kind of search result specifying themselves because they don't know how. Also if I was using my phones assistant, I couldn't use those advanced search terms either.

Also was just throwing that to be one reason for this, however for some reason I feel like there has to be something more in here, because e621 is so big site that it should show up pretty high up on the list regardless of personalization. Like Mutisija said, I would check if safe search is on and then after that try out differend browser and incognito.

If anyone is looking for a good alternative, duckduckgo.com is great. Doesn't track you (therefore won't personalize your results or keep track of your porn habits), search results are almost as good as google and has some other useful features.
Also, searching for "!e621 some tags" will automatically redirect to e621 :P

Thanks for the alternative bluecodedragon :D

I use Google as default, but I hate the personalization. Is there a way to wipe that or am I just stuck with bad results forever?

That's the one I use but I've mentioned it in the past and I don't like acting as an advertisement.

Bang searching is nice though.

I type e6 in google and it shows like as first result (and I have all that google tracking shit disabled)

well something i apparently should have said is that i always use incognito.
but doesn't that mean it doesn't personalize?

Yes, it can't personalize or track anything if you're on Incognito/Private mode. What's more, it will constantly forget your settings, meaning that Safe Mode is always going to reenable.

Huh, I thought it was just a coincidence. You learn something new every day.
