Topic: What is Minimum Quality Standards? Can't upload without explanation here.

Posted under General

I keep uploading my art for others to view because it does well on Furaffinity, so I thought I'd try here because I noticed there is usually a lot of comments or feedback going around. But so far, I've had 3 posts in a row removed, and to have all my art removed for not being considered good enough at all without an explanation is degrading for anyone looking to put up their own content, for not meeting "minimum quality standards". Overlooking posting guidelines and the very brief description of minimum quality standards, I took one of my finished pieces and edited it just slightly to meet said standards, and it didn't for whatever reason. At this point, I'm getting very frustrated because when asking the people who reviewed it and removed it, they told me to "define the lines better and improve general anatomy", and when asked for an example, they couldn't tell me anything in those two issues. The only thing I agreed with was that it could be too dark for viewers.

I figured maybe the first two were too dark when I added in lighting, but it doesn't explain how my last upload got removed because I did not add in lighting and it didn't make anything real dark, so, I figured maybe that would fix the other two issues. It didn't.

So, here are my questions:
1. Is there a better list of items that I can look at so my art can meet standards.
2. Do I seriously have to show lines to differentiate body parts that can easily be seen through the use of core and cast shadows?
3. What is this general anatomy I'm being told to correct, I don't get what this means.

If you need to know what my art looks like and give me suggestions based on that, you'll find it on my Deviantart under the same user. It'll be the first two that actually show off chest.

Please help me out with this. I really want to be able to use e621 as a platform to share my art for others to find pleasure in or get feedback, requests for something to do, or just general fun, but at this point, I can't without someone explaining to me what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you in advanced, if I don't respond, I'm out at sea on a kayak trip and won't be able to get to anything until this upcoming saturday.

Updated

I can't view the 3 deleted images but if the tags on those images and other images on your FA account are anything to go by, I'm guessing the issue is bad proportions.

Lines:

  • Lines are wobbly without reason to be like that, fur doesn't behave like that and neither does skin or muscle.
  • Dividing fingers on a hand by using soft shading makes it look like the character is wearing thin mittens

Anatomy:

  • Body proportions don't match each other, for example in the fox taur image the legs are different lengths. Based on the fact that the color change on the legs starts above the knee the upper leg is like twice the length of the other.
  • Your hands are bad. Fingers aren't a perfect curve, they are made up of solid bones and joints, thus should show distinct segments.
  • dead centered face without any visible depth, this is mainly personal preference but it doesn't help the over all image.
  • the two lowest breasts seem to not be attached to the body at all. The curvature of the breasts flat out doesn't go anywhere to where it would be able to connect on the torso.
  • Breasts don't deform like that or have random creases. As literally fatty bags they only deform where pressure is directly applied, so the second (lower) crease in the first set of breasts doesn't make sense at all.

Also, for the zoroark image the shading of the hair doesn't make sense. If the hair is actually glowing then it should not have shadows cast on it (thus no shading). If it's not glowing the shading should have a lot more weight and also affect the shadows on her entire skull.

I wouldn't have approved your images either.

I followed the guidelines, but it still gets removed. It's embarrassing to me using another user's work as an icon when I've never done that anywhere and dislike doing so because I didn't make it.

Thank you! This is what I was looking for, because no one points out whats wrong, I don't know what to improve. This is something I can actually reflect off of and improve in the future. If there is any other major things to point out for me to do a bit of looking in to, I'll get to it when I get the chance.

You are the first person to give legitimate feedback and criticism, thank you so much for doing what I ask in almost every post.

The problem was lack of linking to your profile. How can anybody give an answer without seeing your work? There are many ways that an image's quality could be subpar by our standards. The only reason Nimmy was able to give an answer is that staff members can see deleted images still.

Legwork. This is what I did:

  • Clicked Zanuark's profile.
  • Clicked on deleted posts.
  • Checked each post for source links. Found a link to main FA page and clicked.
  • Clicked on Gallery.
  • Checked what was there. (safe only since I don't have an FA account)

You're right, though. Links should be provided to make life easier.

This is public booru, not art critique site.

Sites staff has about several hundred posts to go trough - daily, which means all that we do is check post, maybe verify some details if there's something amiss, either approve or delete and then move on. Trying to explain every single deletion done in this level of detail takes time, then we get into situation where everyone starts asking why post approvals are taking weeks or months.

What I'm saying is do not expect to get insanely detailed explanations. Not only from staff, but also users. Most users here aren't artists nor critics, so usually all they can say is "this is bad", some upvote and praise any post which has subject matter they happen to get off to.

Of course asking for feedback and checking that the deletion was correctly made is always good, just to check that staff hasn't turned into nazis and it does seem like you did exactly these things. I would've also likely gone with delete button and most likely could've only said stuff about bad anatomy and perspective.

Well, they did say that you can find them on DA with same username and their profile says their FA username, but hyperlinks would've actually been much better.

Thank you everyone for your feedback, only online because my kayak trip got screwed over by bad guides, leaving shortly.
Getting to the point, I know this isn't an art critique site, I wasn't looking for a critique, I was looking for someone to bash what I made and tell me everything wrong so I could correct myself in the future. I mean, I used to always get in trouble for the same thing in grade school because nobody told me what I was doing wrong or why it was wrong. They just said stop and I get punished. That doesn't help, neither does saying something is good or bad. Why is it good or why it is bad, and I was asking, what I did wrong specifically and why like Notmenotyou did would have helped me a lot and not feel like I'm being singled out.

Again, thanks everyone for your input, I hope to be getting back to uploading and hopefully with success in a few months.
