Topic: Any way to hide the reposts?

Posted under General

As a user who scrolls through every post posted on e621 every few days (so that I can keep up on all the art posted to the site) it is becoming increasingly harder to do through the sheer amount of reposted images.

Is there any way to add a filter for the reposted content so those that have already seen and favourited the images don't have to see them an extra time and have it clutter up their feed?

Also I think it would be a good idea for the reposted images to have their original likes/dislikes as removing all likes kind of removes the whole purpose of them in the first place. There are a lot of people who search for images based on how many likes they get and the reposted images get a fraction of the original likes so those users would miss out on really good content.

Thank you.

When I say reposted I mean that the original version of the image has been replaced by a higher quality one.

put -fav:yung in your search. it hides things that already are in your favorites.

also that merging thing has already been suggested: forum #216197

But the things aren't yet favourited by me because of the time it takes to delete the original posts. Also things that I didn't favourite I don't want to see reposted again.

It kinda makes the site unusable. My girlfriend had to go through 57 pages to get to where she left off. That was only 2 DAYS worth of content.

Its just very frustrating.

edit: oops, put wrong one at first. heres correct ones:

-fav:yung -isparent:true

it hides some false positives but otherwise should work decently.

That doesn't really help as that filters out content that isn't reposted as well, so I would be missing a huge chunk of actual new content. I tried it and it really doesn't filter out that much reposted content either :/

"huge chunk" is a bit of exaggeration since parent posts are really not that common. but there is really nothing else you can do besides just tolerating it.

They are pretty common and I don't want to miss out on that content.

So basically the site becomes unusable for a lot of people which is kind of bullshit, hence why I made this post, because it is very frustrating.

Also artists could easily abuse this system. If their post gets too many downvotes or comments they don't like they could just upload a higher resolution image and all the comments and downvotes would be reset.

They could even do it to promote their content more by deliberately uploading a lower quality image first and then a week later post a higher quality one, giving more exposure to their artwork.

Add -fav:yung isparent:true source:tumblr*raw to your searches.

Blacklist:

2016
2015
2014
2013

Increase posts per page to compensate for the blacklisted posts.

Far-fetched. Maybe take a nap.

I'll try those things tomorrow but it's still not a great solution which just kinda sucks. And I wasn't saying those things weren't far fetched, I was simply saying that they have the possibility to happen.

Try blacklisting

source:tumblr*raw width:>1280 -2017source:tumblr*raw height:>1920 -2017

This will block most reuploads, and won't touch new art.

source:tumblr*raw width:>1280 isparent:truesource:tumblr*raw height:>1920 isparent:true

This will block almost all reuploads, at least until their children get deleted, but it catches more false positives.

Edit: This is incorrect, the blacklist doesn't work with the source modifier. Sorry!

There are still many reposts showing up with this method

That would probably have worked okay, but it looks like sources can't be blacklisted at all and width and length can't be blacklisted in ranges (i.e., blacklisting width:1280 works) similar to score.

Bookmark/Favorite something like order:id id:>1250000 every time when done with a browsing session, replacing the id # with that of the post where you left off. I used to do that years ago until I could no longer keep up with the growth of furry art production/posts here.

I made a feature request for a reupload tag because of this thread, rather than type some half-formed idea in this thread to get buried and forgotten.

It would be nice if everyone uploading superior versions would take extra two seconds, to make sure that all sources are there, all post relations are correct and that year is added from the source page.

Because the main reason why some of these methods do not work is because these things are lacking in some posts.

Can I ask why or how there've been so many reposts/re-uploads lately? Did something change?
