Topic: Quick question on file sizes.

Posted under General

I have two video files, one a scaled down version of the other.

Obviously, posting the higher quality version would be better (it's 90mb), but I was wondering if there would be any issue uploading it. (Upload limit, loading issues, e.c.t)

I don't want to upload a buggy, problematic file, so any help would be appreciated.

Highest quality (not resolution or bitrate, actual quality) is always preferred, unless we are talking about DVD lengths at which point it becomes necessary to downscale and compress content to fit whole lenght.

Also think video files from streaming standpoint. If the filesize is big because you are using 50mpbs bitrate, that's really neat that all the frames are essentially standalone PNG image quality. Altough you can't get much higher quality than that with video, it will become really problematic for anyone to watch it, especially on mobile. It's still video so slight compression in fast moving frame that shows up to user for 30ms usually is not bad.

Biggest file I have uploaded is 100 MB, after that I have gotten error with upload, but it has been almost year since I last tried.

The issue was resolved when I converted the video format from .mov to .webm for upload, which ended up changing the file size to a more understandable 13mb

Shows how much I know about video files.
Thank you for you assistance anyways.

Yes, WebM is pretty efficient codec, so it's not surprising that the filesize can decrease quite a bit even with identical visual quality to source.

However I do have to ask, where did you get that video file. Only source I could find is arists patreon, which would make it paid content under 2 years old: https://www.patreon.com/posts/forest-time-8549994

I was a commissioner of that artwork, and hadn't even realized eipril had a patreon with sub-only content, silly me.

I wish I would have checked back here to avoid having my original post deleted, but after a brief talk with the artist, I was able to receive a video of much higher quality than the swf (which was bothering me) but not-quite the quality of the original work

First of all, please do not upload previously deleted content here, if something was deleted for a reason, then it should stay deleted. This can have actions taken againts your account if this continues.

Thing is that the only public version is the insanely bad flash version, which quality is also unacceptable in my eyes. As the actually viewable version is behind patreon paywall, we can only assume that version is paid content, especially when it's uploaded with account that has zero previous uploads. Even if new upload was much lower resolution, it was still 10 times higher quality from flash, so that can be assumed to be created from same paid material.

We can still accept that video, but I would be directly in contact with NotMeNotYou and also have some definite permissions/proofs of this, best thing would be direct message from artist themselves.

Scratch all that, I was not informed that you have already been dealing things correctly :p

It's still funny how much higher quality and resolution the current WebM file is and still half of the flash files filesize.

I mean, being the commissioner, you should probably be able to post it if you want.

Locking art you paid for behind their patreon? Kinda hinky.
