I've never heard of this "Flower Mantis" before. You sure it isn't made up?

nah it's not. they're specific mantises who mimic flowers in a form of aggressive mimicry, such as the orchid mantis and devil's flower mantis. not all mantises will mimic things this way and these specific mantises do. the stick mantis for example mimics defensively, for camouflage.

I'm well aware of Orchid Mantises, but I was under the impression they were alone in the field of flower mimicry.

ah i see. anyways, nope! there's a whole bunch of them, and they're so similar in their aggressive mimicry that ppl coined the term "flower mantis" to group them together. mimic mantises would be too vague, as many mantises mimic to protect themselves rather than the specific way flower mantises in particular mimic to catch food.
