I was wondering why the site is called e621.net
when it could have been pretty much ANYTHING ELSE.
like a .com
or e622, or something like that...
is there an actual reason or just for the lulz?
Reason:
Just curious...

The site should be called supermexicanafrojesus.com

I assume that the true story of the origin of the name relates to that in some way.

I was thinking more like a chemical.

E621 is the E-number for monosodium glutamate, i.e. MSG, a popular flavor enhancer.
The name, e621, was picked because it's the european code for monosodium glutamate, or MSG, the universal food additive. And we wanted a site with few frills
It's the european code for Monosodium Glutamate. That's what we are. A flavor enhancer :)

Yes. But WHY name a furry site after a fattening flavor enhancer?

Because e621 and e621 are both delicious additives to life.

The drug makes my General Tao Chicken taste good, while this place just gives me cancer. A big, furry, cancerous cancer.

I believe it has to do with the 6-2-1 rule developed for sci-fi cons, it was re-introduced by 2 the Ranting Gryphon and Uncle Kage for furry conventions, such as Anthrocon.
At conventions you should get at least:
-6 hours of sleep per day
-2 meals per day
-1 shower per day
although the "e" would still be a mystery

Nope, it's 'cause E621 is the E-number for monosodium glutamate.

If the site is named after a flavor, I call caramel

When talking about E621 offline I always call it "flavor enhancer".
It just sounds smoother than saying e-six-two-one to me.

Cause monosodium glutamate is addictive as shit, and you're hungry for more in an hour.

Whenever I talk about people on the site I refer to them as "e6 users."
It makes it sound like some kind of illicit drug.

- IKR? It feels like a flavor enhancer!
yep, it does...

why e621? Cause e621 doesn't leave a bitter taste in your mouth after you visit, unlike some competitors

I don't even think that dry ice would be enough for that burn.
