"Republican shock jock Rush Limbaugh could soon find himself without a distribution company thanks to an internal feud over ad revenues lost amid a boycott of his show, triggered when he called a Democratic activist a “slut” and a “prostitute” for speaking in favor of birth control coverage."

He's just a shock jock, why anyone ever takes anything Rush Limbaugh says seriously is beyond me.

Dude this is so old, also, why are you bringing all these articles on to the site, they aren't really relative to the site, but lots of the threads aren't anyway...it just seems like dramabait.

She wasn't really an activist, but ok...

She actually graduated with a major in Feminist, Gender & Sexuality Studies.

"She claimed that, during her time as a law student, birth control could cost in excess of $3,000. She also stated that 40% of Georgetown Law School's female population suffered financial hardship as a result of birth control not being covered by the student health insurance plan, and that the lack of contraception coverage in the university insurance plans would induce many low-income students to go without contraceptives."

I don't understand why she would have had to shovel out that much money in the first place....
1) Birth Control medication costs from 15-50 dollars a month, compared to her "$100 dollars a month" statistic...
2) Maybe you could ask him to wear a condom? I realize they aren't COMPLETELY 100% EFFECTIVE EVERY TIME...but they can also come in a pack of 100 for about $25
3) If all else fails...you could, you know, try not to fuck everything that moves....just a thought...

That's the point that Rush was trying to make, yes.
Of course, she wasn't, but that's the counter-point everyone else made.

1) This whole "Rush losing everything" story is new
2) Not everything in the forums has to be fucking, furries, or fucking furries.
3) Trying to make conversation.

Because he says what his listeners want to hear and already agree with. This establishes a feeling of trust, and makes him sound like he understands and sympathizes with his listeners. This puts him in a position to say a lot of things that may not be factual, but saying anything otherwise puts him at odds with his own audience (not to mention politicians). If a person trusts somebody else, they're typically more inclined to believe what that person says without requiring definitive proof of their claims.

Unfortunately, what's happened is that the media itself dictates the vast majority of what gets talked about and what gets swept under the rug. This is why you'll also find that the majority of Rush's listeners are going to use places like Fox News as their only primary news source. "Rush and Fox News are the only ones talking about this! The rest of the liberal media is trying to cover it up!". The thought seems to rarely occur to them that no one else is talking about it because it's simply not true, or has very little evidence in support of it.

Rinse and repeat for any other popular political show host. They get an audience because they're telling them what they want to hear; they're telling them "You're right, everybody else is wrong". People want to be right, so they listen to those telling them that they're right. It becomes a bit of a mess though when people think they're right because of what they heard (and believed) from another source that they trust.

So the cycle you end up with is:

Political Show Host: You know that issue that you and I both care about? Well guess what our opponents are doing NOW!

Listener: WHOA! Oh my god I had no idea! Why isn't this being reported anywhere?!

News Channel: And finally tonight, issue X may seem simple enough, but SOME are saying that many members of (opposing political party) are WAY out of line in how they're wanting to address it.

Listener: Oh my god that's me! I've been saying that! FINALLY a news channel that's reporting this!

The media has become very, very good at doing this, and the end result is a group of people that gradually become more and more misinformed and genuinely believe things that often have very little or no evidence to actually support them (it should also come as no surprise that these same people are often religious, or at least deny very well established things like the theory of evolution).

So yeah, welcome to a world where, for many, the media dictates what you care about and what you believe. =/

To put in a clear light, Americans love their opinions. In a poll of "Do you think another terrorist attack is possible not that Obama is in office?"
67% say very likely
30% say it's unlikely
3% aren't sure

What that shows is 97% of Americans, when asked something, will have an opinion even if they have no fucking clue what they're talking about. People like Rush Limbaugh cater to that group of people who want people to tell them your opinion isn't a load of horse shit.

You say that like that's not just something that humans in general do. Ignorance knows no country borders, after all.
