Topic: {Meditation}: Where/what is your happy place?

Posted under Off Topic

Topic Prelude:

As one without a family of my own, I often find myself watching with great interest how others interact with their families and wondering what having a family would('ve) be(en) like. More specifically, daydreaming simple fantasies of the perfect family for me, often placing myself in the position of "child" and imagining what qualities my "parents" or even "siblings/extended family" would have....

For as strange as it may seem, with the seemingly unending amount of stress I personally find myself surrounded and bound with, it's a very simple way to remain calm, relax the mind, and reassume mental clarity you see? The particular method of personal meditation that I can always rely on.

So, for those of you that meditate, what is it that you guys focus on or think about for your own method of meditation?

*who knows, maybe sharing could even help others.

A warehouse filled with machines, each of them rusty, yet still powerful when they move. Knowing that each one is moving to fulfill its purpose keeps me calm.

I never had much of a family in this lifetime, so my happy place is with my dragon family, where I can be myself without fear or shame.

One of the most relaxing places in my mind is where I can go back to when I was younger and live another day. Nothing special has to happen, just remember the sights, places, smells... Not only does it help me relax, but it helps me see how far I've come, and yet how far I have to go.

Each year of my life is but another chapter in my life. Music is one aspect that can trigger these therapeutic moments, no matter how energetic the song. DJ Panda's It's A Dream reminds me of when I was 9 and barely out of 3rd grade. Faith No More's Epic reminds me of the first time my parents decided to divorce... specifically the piano outro.

When I'm upset, I just remember that my life is an concerto, and I'm it's conductor. When life gives you mistuned violas and a bassist who can't hear that he's playing a F sharp instead of an F natural, just change the song.

If I want to mediate I go out for a walk in the summer evening when it's full moon. I live near to the edge of the city so I walk out in the fields, while listening to some music and entertaining myself with my imagination. Or I turn on minecraft and generate a world with lakes and flower forest and turn on shaders and a beautiful resource pack. And I just start to admire the beauty of it while listening to some relaxing music , and putting some volatile oil on my lamp.

Whenever I meditate I try my best to imagine a blank white, 100% peaceful void

go big or go home, you know?

e621. I meditate digitally using VR.

When e621 goes down I feel phantom limb pain. Like losing a leg.

Math and programming. Specifically, optimizing code. It's not so much the code itself as it is my own little world where I understand almost everything I see, and the things I don't understand have that moment of curiosity followed by excitement when everything comes together.

I always end up in the sky feeling a 360° void around. Its really rather nice until I fall asleep and I end up with strange dreams.

I'd like to add another. It's a large library I sometimes dream about. Normally I can't think in images, but dreams are an exception. I remember those as if I am still there. There are books as far as the eye can see in every direction, some in languages I cannot understand even in the dream. Every aisle on every floor has an entrance/exit to and from the building or, if I wanted, another aisle or floor. I'm holding a blank notebook with infinite pages and a pencil that never dulls, breaks, gets smaller, or loses the ability to erase. Even with the eraser always handy, I never find the need to use it.

Cool. Sounds like some interpretations I've seen over the years of the Akashic Library. :)

Looks similar. The books in my dream have never been anything beyond the kind of book found in a typical real life library, but otherwise it sounds very similar.

I don't think I have one.

Oh, come now...

Even if it's not meditative, I'm sure you have SOMETHING that keeps you stable when stressed beyond belief, right? I would think everyone does. But maybe I'm wrong?

Either way, I'm not gunna force you to share anything publicly. Only if you feel comfortable, you know?

Cool, cool.

For me, that stuff in particular is only relaxing to my mind when I am hopped up on too much caffeine or other chemical stimulants. It relaxes me when my mind is begging for something to occupy it intellectually, you know? I code the crap out of something when I have alot/ too much coffee, but -even though I'm using up a lot of mental resources- it's still very relaxing in that way.

Yet when I mentally relax, (meditation/chemical depressants) Music is a much better mind occupant, as it is easier to follow given the Rhythm/set rhyming pace and typo. That or, as I said above, the thought of being in a loving family for once.

But hey, if it works (differently/better) for you, I am not to judge or stand against it.

THANKS FOR SHARING!

Personally when stressed, I run around like a lunatic doing many things. This reduces my energy to a managable level....
But I wouldn't exactly call it a 'place' (happy or otherwise).

When meditating, it's just black. Like, literally nothing. I wouldn't call that a place either. This is probably influenced by my Stoic/Zen leanings (triumph and failure are both illusions, happiness isn't necessarily good and sadness isn't necessarily bad)

Possibly this might be the kind of (non-?)experience Sorrowless means

Another of my happy places is my true form. I usually have a printout of this picture of Inanna in the nude hanging up on my wall next to my front door...

...and if I'm feeling really anxious or like I'm about to lose control, I can just look at her and that helps ground me and calm me down.

Even though Abelsword (who now goes by Vashaa) drew that pic for me back in 2011 or 2012, I still feel like it's the most energetically accurate picture of my true self that any other artist has done. Thus it has a very real calming effect on me that goes far beyond the mere erotic qualities of the image.

Didn't notice I were replied to on this thread until now.
I have bad experience with overthinking and trying to feel things from the things I love. I have a fear of jading that I have let go on. If I do go for actively calming myself then meditating on nothingness works mildly for me. My best method for getting rid of stress and anxiety is for me to sleep.
