Topic: points of discussion related to mascots on e621

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

alright, i'm just gonna set these two points here and open it up for some hopefully productive discussion.

1. should cereal mascots be implicated to their respective cereals? many cereals are listed as copyrights (i.e. trix, cookie crisp, frosted flakes) but i think instead it could be argued that these should be general tags to account for their cereals. instead, these mascots could be implicated to the companies the cereals are from (general mills, for instance) which i think would make more sense.

2. should known mascots be implicated to mascot? makes sense to me: no matter what, if anyone posts a pic of tony the tiger, the character will inherently be a mascot.

What about retired mascots, like the wizard from Cookie Crisp, the Noid, or the Cave Man?

under my thoughts those would both still implicate to their respective company and to the mascot tag. just because it's not currently active doesn't mean it was not made as a mascot character.

My stance on this now is the same as it was 17 days ago. Either all mascots get the mascot implication or none of them do. Either way, all of them should have at least one copyright tag.

1 - If the macots are from the cereal brands, so they should be tagged according this; The companies that own those brands may eventually be tagged as well.

2 - I am keeping my argument from forum #234425. all mascots should receive the implication, except the videogame ones, explanation below:

Although the "either all or none" argument seems logical at first, the situation isn't that simple.
Mascots that represent teams, brands, events etc. are different from the videogame ones, sicen the former are merely representative and the latter are characters or species inserted and active in their respective universes. This fact prevent those of being seen as simple mascots and such afirmation can be proven by the fact of videogame mascots practically never get tagged as such, despite of their popularity on e621 (e.g. Morgana, pikachu, Sonic, pikmin, Daxter).
