Topic: How could a game/comic, movie/show adaptations be better?

Posted under Off Topic

Just like the title says
What is your thoughts and how would you make
a film, show base on a video game, comic, other shows etc etc
Be better

Example like the Ratchet and Clank movie...
it flopped, I know I got friends who say they like it
and they're fans of the games.

But it could been better

I think the film was focusing to be
faithful and wanting alot of fan services...
but the down is theres so much of it
the fans would only understand it.

The movie didn't enough lore and explanation for non-fans
Well not enough it would get them sucked in and be interested

That's the kinda issues we have with adaptions,
They become to unfaithful or to faithful
and good writing is needed too.
To make that film have that middle sweet spot
of being faithful with fan services.

I also thought the humor
in the Ratchet and Clank film could been better.
Maybe get the writers of Sonic Boom on it
their quirkiness is funny.

I also think Ratchet and Clank could been better off
as a television series instead.

It would have more build up and character development.
Because trying to squeeze a 3 to 6 hour game
into a 90 minute film doesn't really work...

LAST AIR BENDER!!! (shaking hand in rage) lol

Updated

I watched the Blue Dragon anime after playing the game... my sole advice for adaptations, stick to the story everyone knows!!! Trying to "remaster" or re-anything hampers it 99 times out of 10.

I do follow that logic
but there are somethings that can have improvements
if those parts are not so great at the first place.

but I can see what you mean, like 4kidstv rewriting and odd censorship...
yeah... not surprise alot of FOX translated cartoons didn't age well
a few SABAN's and DIC's cartoons too

They became "goood" but the so bad it's good catalog.
Is that a good thing or bad thing?
Even tho crap like that wouldn't fly today,
not if it's a parody and a joke.

And a lot of things that were good before would be terrible now. For instance, if someone wrote Kenshiro as a character now, it would be their carreer that's already dead.

Yeah alot of things we like are aging poorly
but some of them, they are the ones that are gonna be timeless.

I use to like Samurai Pizza cats
But it didn't age well for me
as I can see the awful Americanization all over it.
It was to cheesy and seems to be unnatural jokes

When I saw the original uncut sub version, it was 100 times.
I kinda wish for a faithful uncut dubbing version of Samurai Pizza cats instead.

I know the show was abridged... but not a good one.
So they could have did that better.

My advice:
Don't turn video games into movies, except maybe story-driven ones, like that game with the bisexual cat and the gay fox.

Turning movies into games doesn't work out much better.

How about Reboot?

Or the original Tron? On one condition: the technology used to remake it must be from that era. I consider the original more realistic specifically because a virtual world in the 80s would realistically look unrealistic. I would expect research done on everything a computer from then can and cannot do, as well as at least one instance where a virus is destroyed simply by turning off a Commodore 64. If the killer POKE on the Commodore PET is mentioned accurately, I will love the director forever.

Also, I did like one particular joke in the RaC Movie.

oh man, PLEASE never let this happen. that would completely ruin that show with all the PC censoring and other BS.

also, did you know that sometimes in the japanese version of sonic X, Sonic would say "shit!"? pretty sure that got caught in the censors here in the west.

true but that's mostly because the people making such games usually don't care about the game being good so long as it lets them cash in on the movies popularity.

the inverse is likely the same way.

to be fair, i think (for 80's and older movies) they had to rely on better acting and making the best of what was available in regards to special effects to make things work unlike nowadays where you have special effects everywhere and the acting quality sometimes suffers as a result.

i watched an old Dracula hammer film my aunt recorded a while back and liked it more than i do most modern vampire movies. largely because of how good the acting was since they didn't have all that much to work with in regards to special effects in that time period. i think the movie was The Curse of Dracula or something like that.

i wish dish would air, Dracula, Dead and loving it!, some time. i set that record the next time it aired months ago but it still hasn't aired at all. :( that's one our favorite dracula movies here.

edit: oh, no, it was Horror of Dracula, not curse.

Reboot the cgi Canadian show?
I would say the story and plot is still good but maybe the CG gets a overhaul
that's about it, the same with Beast Wars

Yes the Ratchet movie did had a few good jokes and gags
I've liked too.
like the Airlock funeral part

Yeah I understandable for bad language to be cut
but it's still trying to put a show with different standards
for little kids is odd.

like it was made to be a that between PG to PG 13/16 cartoon
not forced into Y7 or younger
kinda like bad censored Rated M/R films on tv
it's very easy to notice what they cut or change
so it ends up being bad and silly because of it.
