Topic: So people prefer characters not be tagged?

Posted under General

I only ask as I see quite a few posts where characters aren't tagged, even though that info is clearly available at the source links.

Makes me wonder if people avoid tagging character names for a reason?

A lot of people don't give a fuck about characters most of the time. I'm fairly sure it's a minority, but it's still a lot. And there are also just lazy taggers.

I don't think I've ever searched by character name here: if I'm looking for specific characters, I use r34 instead. As for original characters, I don't care about their names or backstories. I prefer porn without extra baggage.

There's always tons of work to be done with tags, so I presume that most folks concentrate on tagging things they find most useful.

From my experience characters that are bound to copyright tag (like star_fox, twilight_sparkle, sonic, etc) are generally well tagged, so I don't see why someone should use rule 34 sites. (Unless someone is against TWYS rules.) When it comes to original characters it gets worse. And this kind of tags are not only "extra baggage", but also way to find specific character that you really like.

Wider coverage. Not all of my interests are relevant to this board. I suppose I simply find it more convenient to use r34 for character searches, whereas e621 is far better if I'm searching by species or kink.

I understand that, but I'd rather not tag them myself.
Largely because I'm easily squicked and tend to find things I'd rather not see, if I go looking for sources or character names.

Basically, if it's a copyright character from a popular series/show/movie/etc., it's going to get a character tag 99% of the time. Otherwise, I and I'm sure other people don't give a shit what the name of Sparkledog #197649 is, we're more interested in the content in the picture.

That being said, I try to tag character names whenever possible, not just for well-known characters.

I try to tag any character names. Plus, it usually helps out an artist when he/she puts their character on e6 or if they are new here
