Topic: Let's have a friendly little contest.

I've been trying to make a new web-comic type thing, but I've been so far unable to get any characters seeing as how I've been wanting other people to help me out. All I need is a few (eight) people (humans) for the main set of protagonists. I'm fine to work with OC's, however having a picture (or several) would really help. If you're interested in having a hand in the creation of a new (and potentially awesome) web-comic, please let me know.

The "contest winners" will be the ones to show up in the story-line as the main set of protagonists. I may or may not have a few others for background characters depending on how good I think they are.

Before you start looking/creating people, I should let all of you know that I have a few specific archetypes for the characters I'm looking for. If you would like to know what I'm looking for, let me know. If you think I'm going at this the wrong way and have suggestions for how to do this better, do NOT keep your thoughts to yourself! I'm open to suggestions.

This "contest" of mine will be going on until I have the main 8 roles filled. Best wishes to all, and be creative.

If you need this much help making characters, then how do you expect to make a comic based on them? At least try and make characters of your own. You might not like what you have at first, but failure is the first few steps toward success.

Some advice: If you need to flesh something out more, ask yourself "Why?" I don't mean asking to dismiss it. Ask yourself so you can answer it. Then, ask it for your answer.

Don't be afraid if you get characters you hate later. Keep them stored somewhere where you can improve on them in case you realize what it was they needed. I did that with my own fursona and he went from a Pity Sue to the schadenfreude comic-relief.

i recommend trying out this site. it provides forms to fill about characters. the forms includes their basic info and fuckton of trivial questions about them. filling as much as possible is a fantastic way to develop characters. you can make up to 100 characters (more if you do referrals) and you can categorize them.

Same sentiment as forum #154784, but with 'who' instead of 'where.'

anyways I'm saving my character for when e621 finally has its own office space style webcomic

i'm waiting for a westworld-style furry porn comic
called RapeWorld
all visitors must be naked
the robots are anthros and ferals who rape the visitors

I actually was shown something similar to that a while back. The author had an Asphyxiation Snuff fetish. From what I've seen, it's pretty OOC even by porn standards. I think they drew Fluttershy as a unicorn.

Is there a mobile version? I can't select anything on the sheet or scroll back up.

I am dissapointed in myself for knowing exactly which comic you are speaking of.

It's even worse when you're just given a link by a friend and you happen to be Asphixiphobic.

I remember the user on Furaffinity. I can't really forget. It's cleared off his page, but they have it on a comment. I'll send you the link to his FA page.

Reading through all of your responses, It's become quite apparent to me that I should've added the detail that I do have a good idea for the format of the 8 characters I'm asking for.
If any of you are really interested in the finer details of the characters, please send me a message and I'll be glad to provide information about the guys or girls; whichever character you want, the starter info I'm asking for to help with creation is the Gender you want to work with.
From there, I'll be glad to provide info of each set. To make things a little more interesting, I don't even have any names for any of the characters; however a couple have nicknames, but those can be discarded/replaced if it doesn't suit you as the actual character creator.

I have to disagree with kamimatsu and Knotty_Curls here. You can start with characters and not much else, as long as those characters are well defined. Throw them in a setting together and see what happens. Simulate their interactions. Let a story grow organically.

What I mean is, you still need to know how to make your own characters. It's fine to be inspired by another character, but if you want to write, actually write. Relying on others to write your characters is only going to make it harder to write yourself when you inevitably need to. Even if you make bad ones, you can still improve on them. Even webcomics that started with others' characters had to make their own eventually.

Everyone seems confused about something. I'm not utterly incapable of creating my own characters, I could do it if I wanted to, however I'm asking for help with this because the more people involved, the more likely is that word about it is gonna get out, and the more people that know about it, the higher the likelihood is that it'll end up as a success.
The entirety of the reason I'm asking other people to make characters for me to borrow is so that I have a good starter foundation of viewers who I'm hoping would enjoy the overall work enough to tell their friends about it. Then from there get the friends interested so they'll spread word, and from there I'll have to spend less on advertising.
Basically, semi-free publicity is my main goal by asking for characters to borrow. I realize that it may or may not be a smart idea to be outright honest about this, but I figure complete honesty is better than hiding my true intentions; and if I'm completely honest, then I'll hopefully get a good set of people to help me out with this, because this is the first web comic I've ever made.

What about cameo appearances?

Cameo appearances are a very strong possibility if the character's creator wants/allows their character to be in the web-comic. However that character (unless they're a main part of the story) won't be around too long, or they won't show up too much. I have said I'm more than happy to take in side characters, and I'll also be glad to get characters and ideas for side-story arcs.
Will that answer do for you, kami? Were you wanting a different answer?

You can get an audience from cameo appearances, but main characters should be your own, especially since people might not want the story to go the way you do, and if you use their character, you now have to work out what to do.

You make a fair point, Kami. That's something I didn't take into consideration. However, along the way, I'll be giving plot updates to anyone that helps me out and checking their opinions on things that affect their character(s). That should make them more easy to work with, plus I'll be getting more and different ideas to work with to get as many people as I can happy. How do you think that'll fair on my part? Do you think it'll work great or be a complete catastrophe?

I'm not sure. If you can get something people in it can agree in and do out quickly, than go for it. I'd suggest a comic buffer though. It's when you make multiple comics in advance without uploading them, so you have time to spare if something prevents you from making a comic. I'd also suggest having a few pages already done before uploading anything, just so people don't get disappointed at it for being too short when it just launched.

Ya know, this whole discussion did make me curious.
