Posted under General

Since almost 1 week ago. I can surf the website normally but now it can't.

but after I tried using VPN, it can be surfed normally.

Is there anything happen to my internet or it's a server problem right now?

The error said it's a Error 502 or host error.

PS. I'm stayed in Thailand and tried the VPN from Singapore and it works fine :(

and sorry for my bad English. This is my first post here.

A major trunk line between Australia and the U.S. has been damaged, and is being repaired. For now, internet traffic is being redirected through Asia.

One of my MMO guildmates is in Australia, and that is what they've been told by their ISP.

That's odd. Most of my connections to American websites (FurAffinity, e621, Microsoft Xbox One Services, etc.) has been going slow for me. Could it possibly be caused by those services migrating services closer to Asia to accommodate for that?

I haven't noticed any degradation personally. What's the intended implication: that Asia's performance will be reduced, Australia's, or both?

(anyone making inferences about degradation in relation to a website with a CDN should be careful. From recollection of past errors, in my particular case e621 images are probably being served from Sydney, and I'm pretty sure a similar caveat would apply to Youtube.)

My speculation, given what little information I have, is that ISPs that depend on the damaged line could be saturating their links to other neighboring ISPs as a result of temporarily routing a bunch of additional traffic through them.

You're right that it's incredibly hard to know for sure with so little information, though. It does jive with "almost 1 week ago" and "the VPN from Singapore [...] works fine". The timing sounds about right, and many VPN providers route their traffic differently from ISPs. And ISPs in the U.S., at least, play all kinds of stupid games with each other that have nothing to do with the consumers' interests.
