Topic: Pools: "Mark as active" checkbox

Posted under General

Today, I created pool #15674, and I've added all of the posts in the series to it. Before I uncheck the "active" checkbox on this pool, I want to be sure that this can be easily un-done.

The last post in the series, post #1480199, was 7 months ago, but going back through the other posts, you can see that there was a year-long gap between post #930771 and post #1187969, whereafter more posts started to slowly trickle in on a semi-weekly basis. So in the future, there may or may not be more posts.

If unchecking "active" can be easily undone, then I can uncheck it and be sure that anyone else can uncheck it later on to add more posts if suirano ever posts more to the series. But if it can't, or needs a moderator to re-check, then I should leave it be.

Yes, you can mark and unmark pools as active easily. There is no feature that halts your ability to toggle pools AFAIK. Unmarking the pool as active will only make it unfindable in the drop menu on a post.

Alright, then in the interest of helping keep that super long dropdown as clean as possible, I've marked the pool as inactive, and moving forward, I will try to mark pools as inactive if the final post is more than 100 days (~3.3 months) old. Sound fair?

I thought pools automatically went inactive after a certain amount of time...?

Well, the help page doesn't say anything about active/inactive pools at all, so I have no idea.

Nope, or must be a very very long time.

Sorry for necro if there's a rule on necros but I didn't see any.

Mark as active is a sorely under-used feature and pools that have received no changes in ~2 years? Should probably automatically be unchecked as active.
Moreover it should be possible to filter searches by pool activity status.
