Topic: [Feature] Omit space after tags in Quick Tags that ends w/ underscore

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I have a pretty long list of Quick Tags (slightly above 200 lines) consisting of different colors for countershades, furs, tails, hair, scales, etc. This is really handy, since I just have to take a peek at the post and then scoll down and click all the appropiate tags.

What I want is a way to shorten down the list and speed things up while remaining the same functionality, so I came up with an idea.

Requested feature overview description.
Currently a space is added after every tag you click in the Quick Tags in order to prevent the tags from merging together in one giant mess. However, if a space isn't added after tags that ends with a underscore you could click on a second tag to compose a new tag, like black_ and fur would become black_fur instead of black_ fur.

Since tags rarely ends with a underscore, as seen here, this shouldn't interfere with other tags and cause any problems with other users.

Why would it be useful?
It would shorten down the needed amount of tags in the Quick Tags and make it easier to tag posts, since I take the latter is the reason why the list exist.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
Only where the Quick Tags can be accessed, like posts.

Example/TL;DR

Imagine having these tags in your Quick Tags:

black_blue_green_red_yellow_countershadefurhairscalesskintail

If you want to tag blue_fur red_fur green_tail yellow_tail, you would click these tags in the following order:

  • blue_
  • fur
  • red_
  • fur
  • green_
  • tail
  • yellow_
  • tail

This way you don't have to scan through lists of tags for all fur and tail colors just to add few tags.

I don't really have a horse in this race, but your proposal makes sense to me, and I quickly checked the tags ending in _ and didn't find any that actually had posts.

If this proposal were to be accepted, IMO it would be good to remove any ambiguity, by explicitly forbidding actual tags that end with _ (not enforcing this directly, but saying 'if you see a tag ending in _, it's always a wrong tag'.
. Otherwise, consider the case where, within your quicktags list, you have a full tag ending in _ -- for this tag ,but no other tags, you will have to remember to press space.
