Something along these lines, because I find that when I'm looking for specifics, I like to tune out My Little Pony options, but even after I add '-pony', '-my_little_pony', and '-equine', I find that somehow My_Little_Pony posts are still slipping through, and since there's just so many of them it's simply in my opinion that a certain tag should be applied to all 'MLP' posts. Just my opinion :)

Makes no sense...these posts that are slipping through are obviously not tagged with my_little_pony and thus an implication attached to my_little_pony would do little to solve your issue.

Characters like spike_(mlp), princess_ember_(mlp), and gilda_(mlp) are also implicated to my little pony but aren't equines normally. -1.

That said, you can -mlp and it'll cover everything hit by My_little_pony and be easier to type, just in case the problem is that you're typoing. Can't help mistags, and this implication wouldn't help you.
