Do we really need a different tag for the movie? I'd say just alias it.

Having a tag specifically for the movie allows users who want to avoid spoilers for the movie to blacklist it, which I absolutely support! No one wants to be spoiled for that movie they're dying to go see.

That said, the movie came out on October 6th. Most people who've WANTED to watch the movie in theaters PROBABLY have? That said, the DVD release date is January 9th.

So, I support an alias at some point, be it now, in a month or after the DVD's released. If it were me, I'd probably say 2 weeks after the DVD release, but it's not up to me. :)

And, seeing as how there are currently no posts in my_little_pony_the_movie -my_little_pony I don't think an implication's needed in the interim. :)

I was inclined to say that spoilers are not really a consideration in any other aspect of this site, so MLP doesn't merit special consideration in that regard, but on this point I guess you're right, it's just not needed.

Well... I'd actually argue that MLP's in a bit of a unique situation, as it's part of a large, popular franchise, and a movie promises a lot of new unique content (as in, characters, plot twists, jokes..). It's not the only franchise in it's position, but I'd support a temporary tag to contain spoilers for any movie or game like it. Furry movies/games-of-significance only roll out a few times a year and most of them are standalone, rather than part of a greater franchise.

I mean, I'd support a unique tag for the newest generation of pokemon, for a Sonic or new Zootopia film, a new game in the FNAF franchise, etc. At least for a month or two. (TV shows are a different story -- too much effort for something people probably are watching within a day or two of airing.)

Of course, this mostly requires people to be willing to support it--tagging spoilers, the alias/implication effort/etc. It's a fair bit of work for short term pay off--but I appreciate the idea of it. It's probably not something that would ever be supported officially, but I *like* the idea of it. :)

It is a good idea in theory, the problem is that there's no good way to automate it as far as I know. A `latest_installment` tag, combined with any standard copytag, would do the trick of being a spoiler guard, but would lead to a ton of manual work, leftover tags on stuff that no longer warrants it, etc. because I don't think there'd be any good way to automate it.

Nah, AFIAK, no way to do it either. Just gotta set a calendar or whatever. I wouldn't want a 'latest installment' though, because it'd all be jumbled together.. so I meant more.. Pokemon_(Marble_and_Slate) or Zootopia_(back_on_the_beat) or FNAF_(pizza_tycoon).. something that can be aliased away and then deleted a few months later. Much neater than a latest_installment tag that would inevitably have spoilers from that one episode 3 years ago that everyone knows about, even the people who don't watch the show ;) )

I dunno, I just have MLP blacklisted anyway because I have Derpibooru for that. That site has all of this handled by tagging episode names and stuff, so it does the trick, and then I come here for the furries.

What about creating the tag with a specific name for that, then when it gets old enough, aliasing it, then immediately unaliasing it, so they all get replaced with the general tag, but don't take up space as an unused alias, since any already aliased stay as what they were aliased to
